The Cactus Is Back – 03/07/2019
I’ve been dealing with snow and birds and hungry squirrels, but today I took a look at the cactus and I was actually impressed. I’ve had this cactus for more than a decade and never has it bloomed like this. It has always bloomed, but never fully. Never so many flowers and buds.
It looks absolutely beautiful against the snow on the deck. I’ve been trying to get a good picture of it, but the light coming in from the door does strange things to the flowers and their colors.
I think these two are the best of today’s bunch!

And this could be its LAST show. Sometimes, plants put out a brilliant display and then die. Remember — flowers are what they do when they think they ARE dying. It’s making seeds for a new plant to grow.

It looks so healthy too. I have often, in my garden, observed that – after a particular opulent and glorious blooming – the plant/shrub died. So I DO hope that I’m not raining on your parade and your enjoyment of cactus’ flowers may continue, and that it’s not a last show of will and beauty

No, I was wondering that myself. I’m wondering if it is pushing everything out and will die afterward. I am hoping not, but it is definitely possible.
