If you wanted to take a quick guess at what kind of picture I’m going to post, might the answer be “birds”? It has been a chilly, wet spring. Going out hasn’t been a lot of fun. There are pools of water all over and for some reason, they seem to be the deepest pooled in the handicap spots in parking lots. Is that a subtle hint? Or — a not so subtle hint? It’s gray today and supposed to rain a little later.

We’ve been getting a lot of days that start out lovely and disintegrate shortly thereafter. In fact, it’s been a daily occurrence. I don’t mind the chilliness and I’m all in favor of keeping the rivers full of water — and my well full of water, too! But couldn’t we get a few pretty days between the rains?

There are more birds. All of them are really pretty now, in their bright breeding feathers. They’ve gotten all dressed up to woo their mates, some for a lifetime (for a bird, this might not be all that long), others until the nest releases its last nestling.

A pretty red House Finch unless it’s a pretty, red Purple Finch. No, I really can’t tell the difference.
Goldfinches all lined up for chow time!
A lovely front view of one of our doves
Cowbird with red finch
Friendly midday squirrel

Pictures for a Sunday afternoon with rain in the air. But for now, it’s merely gray.

  1. Those pools of water near or IN the handicapped stalls are no illusion. Well from my perspective any how. Because there are supposed to be ramps near the handicapped parking spaces, the water has something to freely flow down, and gather in the space at the bottom. And it may well be (my opinion, not fact obviously) that those parking spaces might be set on an slight incline, the easier for handicapped persons to navigate the ramp. *splish splash!!* Those bird photos are gorgeous and so very appreciated! ❤

    1. I don’t know. Even in parking lots without ramps, it’s like they never actually PAVE the handicapped spots. They have deep sunken areas that even in DRY weather are small pools. I think they want us to go away and never darken their parking lot again.

    1. Ah, you got that storm. We’re going to get a piece of it. How much depends on the winds. Keep warm and be patient. There really IS no point in killing yourself over the snow since it’s going to melt very quickly after it’s done, too.

  2. Well yes, WHAT could it be?! 🙂 birds AND snow?
It‘s hard to believe but yesterday, on Sunday, it was well and truly snowing and bitter cold in Zurich, Switzerland, where I stayed, with my spring clothes in my suitcase, having put away all tights and boots, long sleeved jumpers only a week before!!! Shall be travelling back to France in a few hours shivering and with my newly acquired cold! But it should be 14°C in Paris, so that will be OK, if I make it ….
