I have personal taste that tends toward humor and wit and some things that I find funny aren’t really funny, but I find them hilarious. I tend to overvalue wit and cleverness and at least a hint of humor.
I like what I like and often write about movies and books I enjoy. I love it when I help someone discover books or a movie they might like.
I also don’t mind if you don’t like what I like.
The last Session
Some people talk about how they believe everyone is entitled to believe what they want … but I actually mean it. There are things — news and political things — that I feel are completely wrong and while I would never force you or try to force you to believe as I do, I reserve the right to not talk to you about beliefs I feel are wrong … or evil.
I do believe in right and wrong. I don’t believe in a particular God or gods, but I think the devil is lurking behind every closed door. In fact, I think his hoofprints are all over this world and a lot of people have sold their souls to him. I think most of our senators and certainly our so-called president have sold their souls to him. It’s the only way I can explain their behavior.
But as for taste? If you read serious books you couldn’t pay me to open, that’s okay. Just don’t try to force me to read it. If I like bizarre British science fiction and it goes right over your head? That’s okay. You aren’t required to love it just because I do. You don’t need to like the same television shows, movies, books, or poetry.
I don’t care if you are a Republican as long as you innoculate your children and don’t try to convert me.
The elephant in the room
Okay, that’s not true. I have trouble coping with anyone who thinks caging children is okay because they have brown skins and don’t speak English. My heart bleeds for those people and there is no way I can reconcile myself to people who don’t care and feel the value of everything can be reckoned using dollar signs.
I guess that’s where I draw the line — my line between good and evil.

I now divide the world into two types of people: MAGA people and non-MAGA people. I have no interest in conversing with, dealing with, or interacting with MAGA people. When it comes to MAGA people, I have completely lost my sense of humor.

Fortunately, I don’t KNOW any MAGA people. I’ve disconnected from any I knew. It’s a small thing, but it helps.

I agree, Marilyn. I have a hard line in the sand for actions, cruelty, abuse of any kind and that is on “you” the individual perpetrating the horror, not on anyone or anything else! It’s a choice YOU made. So the atrocities being carried out under this administration are irreprehensible and on each one participating by NOT taking a stand against these acts. I never believed in abortion until several years ago when it hit me, it’s your body, your choice! So it should be. You have to live with the consequences of that choice, the emotional upheaval it is likely to bring whether it is relief or guilt. I’ve never used guilt to make anyone feel bad or to do something I wanted them to do. I think guilt is as horrific a killer of people as anything could be. It destroys your soul, your ability to make free choices whether the job you want, the dress you want the shoes you want the diet you want, whatever the choice, there is often, too often, someone there to make you feel guilty about your choice, or about enjoying life, or having fun. End of rant! lol

As for guilt, there’s serious guilt and then there’s bribing your kid by pointing out you are his/her aging mother. That’s not guilt. That’s the equivalent of a parental eyeroll.

That’s my line. You can disagree with me about the facts and if they are on your side, I’ll bow to you. We can disagree about faith and dogma, art, cinema, authors … and sometimes, the meaning of history. But when we get into right and wrong, it’s a different ballgame.

Indeed it is! I feel if we are too ambiguous about our values then we really don’t have any. So I always take a stand for what I believe to be right or wrong.

I think that’s what makes us different from our so-to-speak government. We have actual principles. They apparently don’t.

I think people take me too seriously. I have opinions, but I don’t require anyone agree with me. It’s nice if they do, but it’s not on my list. I can be argued win and I lose (usually) with a reasonable amount of grace.
