July Blues and the Sky at Dawn – Vernal Equinox
It was dawn on the day of the Vernal Equinox and I had not closed the shades. I usually do, but I forgot. When I woke up, it looked as if the room was on fire. The blue sky turned deep red and violet before finally, the sun came up. It was the most amazing sunrise I’ve ever seen. My friend called me to ask: “Did you see that sunrise this morning? It was amazing!”
And I keep a camera in the bedroom, just for this kind of event. I can only get these amazing sunrises before the leaves come out. After that, the trees hide the sky.

Beautiful shot, Marilyn! That is an amazing sunrise!

It was. It was a giant fire in the sky and it was from her all the way (76 miles westward) to Amherst.

This is breath-taking, Marilyn. Worth being up so early for! Well done for catching it on camera. I’ve never been very successful at photographing sunrises and sunsets. My efforts never do them justice. 🙂

This would have been hard to miss. It was really rich and dark and bright. Like the sky was on fire. I’ve actually got another dozen or so of them. I just kept shooting until the sun came up.

With a sunrise like that, I don’t blame you for catching as many images as possible. 🙂

I figured I might never see another one like it. And I haven’t.

I’m glad you got to see it. I wish I had too, but at least I got to enjoy it through your pics. 🙂

It really does look like there’s a fire.

The whole room was red and purple. It was also very bright. You don’t see sunrises like that very often!

And they only seem to show up at the equinoxes. Someone with a degree in climatology or meteorology might know why. I’m sure there’s some scientific explanation.

That’s probably why Stone Henge and other ancient sites were based on the equinoxes….

I always wondered about that. I think the equinoxes were one of the things, but I also think there was a lot MORE. Stonehenge has been built and rebuilt multiple times. We still don’t know much of what occurred there and I doubt we’ll ever know for sure. But some people are trying their best to figure it out.

The only thing for which I can take credit is having a camera right next to the window. Otherwise, the gods did it and I just got to witness it. It was like nothing I’ve seen before or since.

It is indeed unique! But to capture it in all its amazing colors!

I was lucky I had a camera right there by the window. I could never have done it otherwise. The camera was there to catch pictures of the birds, but then there was that astonishing sunrise — and a few others that were almost as good. I can’t get that screen open anymore, so I can’t get those shots. I have to run into the kitchen and out onto the deck, by which time, the show is usually over. But I’m going to see if there’s some way I can get remove that screen for the cold weather. It’s the best sky view in the house. Better than the deck!

It was … and I went back to bed afterward. Because it was very early. We do seem to have some fabulous sunrises that time of year, though. Nothing like that, though. THAT was special.

That particular window faces close to due east, so if there’s going to be a great sunrise, that’s where you can see it best.
