BLUE JULY AND UP IN THE AIR! – Garry Armstrong

Up in the Air We Go Flying Again

Oh, how I love to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so BLUE!
Oh, I do think it’s the pleasantest thing,
Ever a child can do …

But lacking a swing, will a helicopter do?

Blue sky and a helicopter

      • I’m one of those who’s had the Superman “you can fly” fantasy. Mom talked me down. YELLED me down.
I’ve flown in a few choppers – back in my working days. Once, a long, long time ago – we were doing a piece at West Point. We were shooting aerials. No door on chopper. My nutty cameraman coaked me into leaning out of the chopper for a “standup”. He kept saying, “Lean further out, Garry”. He had a maniac’s giggle.

    • Oh, it’s not my poem! It’s the first couple of lines from Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Up In The Air,” which was a favorite book my mother read to me when I was little. Funny because I can remember most of the words to those poems when I’ve forgotten so much else.
