We went to the eye doctor today and we’re glad to know that although he needs glasses (bifocals), he can see 20-20 with glasses and the prescription has been the same for four years. So even if his eyes are no longer those of a fighter pilot, they work.
Even without glasses, he can see a solid 20-40 which is good enough for most stuff including driving, most of the time.
Bonnie barked me into wakefulness at around 5 this morning. While I was in the kitchen, I noticed Garry had forgotten to put up the morning coffee. No big deal. I can put up the coffee.
Except he hadn’t actually looked into the machine in a long time. Under the brewing thingie was about a month of coffee muck. I cleaned out the machine, but this morning, it would not brew anymore. Some small plastic item that controls the drip mechanism had died in my cleaning frenzy.
Oh, world, you have destroyed my digestion and my spine is deteriorating (though the new meds really ARE better). You gave me cancer twice, but my hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is more or less under control. One of my dogs is dying. Our blood pressure is peaking. Climate change is battering our house and this country has become a trench of evil. And the Red Sox won’t be anybody’s champions this year.
PLEASE! DON’T TAKE AWAY MY COFFEE!
I’LL DEAL WITH EVERYTHING ELSE, BUT I NEED MY COFFEE.
Tea won’t do the job and I don’t care how many people in England think it’s grand.

We have a Capresso, but I also keep a basic Mr. Coffee in the attic. The Capresso dies every few years, we turn it in and replace it, but that Mr. Coffee produces during the in-between time. Never, ever, start a day without coffee. And, if all else fails we have a new DD just down the road a mile or so. 🙂

Since I returned from my UK trip, Marilyn, I have not been able to drink coffee. I didn’t like the British coffee at all. I do understand your point though, as my husband is a coffee drinker.

The English have not quite conquered coffee yet, but they will get there I’m sure. Eventually.

We do have a Target, but Mr. Coffee is not expensive and they make a decent cuppa coffee. I’ve tried a bunch of others, but these are reliable and I have no complaints about them at all. I think I paid maybe $16 for this last one that has lasted for 8 or 9 years.

I’ve had other machines. We had a Cuisinart that died in less than 3 months. I had a Melitta that croaked in 5 months. I had a Black & Decker that made such awful coffee, no one wanted to drink it. Then, I went back to the simplest, most basic $18 Mr. Coffee and it was just fine. This one died because Garry didn’t understand how it worked, but they’ve improved them so they won’t break that way. These inexpensive machines last from 2 to 5 years. Nothing else has even survived a year.

I have no idea how old our current one is but the hot plate has lost most of its coating. I’m not real sure why Jim has the need to buy a new one, but we have the $18 so I guess it’s OK. Lol

Dammit. I have a Mr. Coffee sitting unused on the lowest shelf of my kitchen ‘butler’. It was hubby’s and after he died, I just couldn’t bring myself to use it. I believe it still works. If you want it, email me your addy and I’ll ship it right away. Only concern is that do they still make filters for Mr. Coffee machines or even make Mr. Coffee any more? 😐

Mr. Cofee is still the most popular brand of coffee machine. They come in all sizes now, quite tiny to 12-cup. I had a spare one in the closet (can’t get through a day without coffee so I keep a spare). I finally dug it out of the hallway closet and set it up. It has to have been there at least four years. Brand new in its box. Waiting for its moment.

Oh no! Will, you have to get a new machine now? I usually start the day with coffee, David did not drink tea so despite coming from a tea-drinking British family I drank coffee most of the time for years, brewed not instant. Naomi, on the other hand, hates the smell of coffee brewing so when I’m with her I drink tea. When I’m alone I usually go for coffee. I’d miss it if I had to give it up.

I had a spare in the cupboard and ordered a new (used which is really new but with damaged packaging) one that has a thermal carafe. I always keep an extra machine in the house. I can live without a lotta stuff, but not coffee. Need the coffee.
STILL haven’t heard from our insurance people. They are right on our case, aren’t they.

Ugh, today was a disaster for me. Once again, getting lost enroute to an important meeting. I’ve chewed myself out suffienctly but am still seething at my ability (??) to get lost going to what used to be familiar locations. Add in gridlock, bad drivers and road work, I don’t think I’ll be writing about this day anytime soon. Judas Priest! Was it because I had tea, skipping my usual coffee? Mother of mercy!
