Christmas Cactus — November 25, 2019
Mind you, I’m still waiting for my orchids to stop sending out shoots and start putting out buds. But — you can’t hurry a plant. You can’t force buds, at least not here in this house. So we have blooming cactus until we also having blooming orchids!
There are a lot more buds ready to pop and the first flower to open is beginning to droop. Should we get a little bit of sun one of these days, all will go better. Or so I believe.

The less I do, the better they grow.

Me, too! The Christmas cactus is in full bloom and beautiful, while the orchids are just sending up shoots and starting to bud. The wait is always worth it! I have relatively good success with orchids, but I haven’t quite mastered growing them. As long as I get one stem that flowers in each pot, I’m happy.

I’ve got a LOT of shoots, but no buds. Last time, the buds came much earlier. All I can do it wait. They are very healthy … just not putting out flowers.

When they bloom fully, they are quite breathtaking. I’ve got some new pictures, but they look exactly like the old pictures. Same plant. Same flowers.

I’m getting rather fond of Christmas cacti all of a sudden (or rather, over the last months!).

They certainly are blooming — just like the cactus rose in Shinbone.

I think they are related to each other. But most cactus flowers, if it has the right light and not too much water.

One of their nicer features is that they bloom for quite a long time as long as you don’t overwater them. They will keep sending up new buds, sometimes for a few months.
