COMING AND GOING OF THE SUN — Marilyn Armstrong

Early morning – Vermont

Other than from the direction, you can’t tell if the sun is coming up or setting. I’ve done all the checking I can and in fact, the light is the same. It depends on the season of the year, but the coloring is identical otherwise.

And yet we are fascinated by the coming and going of the sun. Even when I was a child, I used to stand outside and watch the sky, sometimes for a full hour from late afternoon until final darkness, watching the delicate changes in the sky and the clouds and the way the light filtered through the trees.

I have not yet lost my wonder.

  5. These photographs coupled with your reflection on sunrises and sunsets, Marilyn. Yesterday’s federal court ruling makes this morning’s sunrise all the brighter: ““It is a core tenet of this nation’s founding that the powers of a monarch must be split between the branches of the government to prevent tyranny… Stated simply, the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded American history is that presidents are not kings.” – Judge Jackson

    • We don’t know if the court’s ruling will make anyone think about what they are SUPPOSED to be doing, but we can hope! I just thought the judge really caught the essence of the issue better than I expected. She really nailed it. Now, I just hope people read it and remember why we ARE Americans! Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Beautiful shots, Marilyn, and a day is always better with the sun shining. 🙂

    • Yes. We are in full sun today. Supposed to pour all day tomorrow, but maybe not so much on Thanksgiving. I haven’t gone and yelled at the squirrels in an hour, so I’m betting they are out there gulping down the food I just put out. Surely they must stop eating sometimes, right?

  7. We are fascinated by them because of the wondrous sight they present. Never ordinary and never routinely same.

  8. Love the seagull shot. Isn’t there more color in a sunset than a sunrise?

    • It depends on what’s in the air. In Arizona, the sand always makes the sunset red and deep pink. Sunrise depends on clouds. You need some kind of clouds to get color in the morning. I got lucky usually, but if the sky is completely clear, you see the sun but no color. There really IS no difference technically, but you definitely get different kinds of sunrises and sunsets depending on where in the world you are.
