We recently had an ice storm where I live, which knocked out our satellite dish and made the roads hazardous to drive on for a while. But the next day, the ice-covered trees and bushes around the house created a fantasy winter scape, which I want to share with you.

I love these, they are so pretty. There’s something about the patterns ice makes!

It looks quite beautiful and magical but I think it is very hard on the trees and plants.

Our tree branches were leaning over to the ground in some places. Going up the driveway, my windshield was constantly bombarded by low hanging iced branches. But fortunately the roads were all fine – no ice there at all.

Sometimes, especially if we get one of these storms while there are still leaves on the trees, big branches break off and occasionally, whole trees crash down. We’ve lost fences and other things to falling trees. Luckily, none ever fell on the house — just on stuff in the yard. This one wasn’t too bad, as ice storms go.

Sorry about the bad weather, but it sure made for some amazing photos!

Nothing quite as pretty as trees slicked with ice — as long as the ice isn’t so heavy that it snaps the limbs.

And now it’s in the mid-fifties and all the ice is gone. Our woods was just a huge glittering woods. The ice was not thick enough to damage the trees, so it was a pleasure to look at. There are some pluses to living in the woods.
