I sneeze early and often. I sneeze loudly. Ferociously. For no reason. I don’t know my maximum number of sneezes in a row, but it’s more than fifteen. After that, I’m dizzy and I don’t know what’s going on.
So last night, I was eating a protein bar and I started to sneeze. After the first four sneezes, I inhaled and pulled a lot of protein bar bits into my bronchial tubes. Now I was sneezing and I was choking.
Garry was asleep, without hearing aids, so he couldn’t hear me. I kept choking for a long time with intermittent sneezing. Eventually, I managed to cough up enough protein bar bits to stop choking. Which was a relief because even if I’d woken Garry, he has no idea how to do the Heimlich Maneuver.
Most people don’t.
So, here are instructions. They even include how to do it for yourself if no one is around.
You’re welcome.
WARNING: Avoid having a mouthful of food when you start a marathon sneezing fit.

It would have been funny if I could have found the breath to laugh.

Glad you are OK. I am a sneezer too but thankfully have never had that happen.

Until I finally coughed it all up, there was a lot of choking and coughing. It wasn’t one solid piece but a lot of small pieces. it was weird.

So glad you were able to cough it up Marilyn. Years ago we nearly lost my mother she was eating something made with filo pastry and a piece of that fell across her airway. Thankfully my brother was on the ball and saved her, she had turned blue in the face. I worked in disability services whilst at university and one of the residents was known not to chew his food, I was just coming on shift was a bit early thankfully. I was reading notes, and heard a weird noise raced out and the resident in a wheel chair was choking. I dont know how I got behind him and raised him out of his chair enough to heimlich him. A whole brussell sprout went flying across the room. Phew. Sorry your story just took me back there. I was glad to see you included the new guidelines of the back thumps as well. I cant imagine how Gary would have been if you had not saved yourself. woah! The sneezes so long, i do two in a row every morning that is enough your poor head.

My son is also a big sneezer. It must run in families. I think my granddaughter too. But it occurred to me that Garry doesn’t even know how to do it and probably neither do a lot of otheres.

Oh I never knew that some people do not sneeze wow. I keep learning so much. If I stop learning I know it will be time to curl up my toes.

Those sneezing fits can be pretty uncomfortable, even without food in the bronchial tubes!

It makes you dizzy because, after a while, you can’t catch your breath, even without inhaling a mouthful of food!

I could actually feel the food rattling around down there. I just figured in a year of plague, I wasn’t going to die of inhaling protein bar!
