Once upon a time in a world that has vanished, we dressed to look good. To other people. Remember “other people”? You know. Company for dinner? Visitors for the weekend? Hanging out in the afternoon with friends? How about a friendly conversation with a complete stranger?
Yes, those things used to happen, but no more. These days, we live inside unless it stops raining, in which case we may ramble all the way to the garden! Today I went outside on the back deck. It was warm, sunny, and lovely. Of course, the temperature is dropping tonight and it will rain tomorrow and most of next week, but we had one beautiful Saturday.
Meanwhile, a package came in today. Two packages. One included a rain jacket I ordered when it was on a one day 75% off sale (it’s back up to more money than I would ever spend). A nice bulky red sweater and because it was a two for one sale, a nice-looking pair of pajama pants.
In fact, I think pajamas and all things associated with it are the new dress garb. You can see it on television every night on Colbert’s show. Everyone is wearing pajamas. Some people are actually wearing bathrobes. The really elegantly dressed are wearing a tee shirt. I assume they are also wearing jeans or some kind of pants, but you can’t tell. I’m betting sweat pants … or pajama pants.
I was very excited about my new pajama pants. I still get dressed when I get up, though I am not sure exactly why. Garry is wearing pajama pants, but if it’s too cold for them, sweat pants. And a sweatshirt. Sometimes two sweatshirts. It gets cold in this house. I actually feel all dressed up in my new pants, worn with an almost-matching tunic. I’m ready for Lockdown high-life.
Is anyone really getting dressed anymore? I did buy some attractive spring clothing on the theory that we might have spring. If not that, maybe summer? Or fall?

SERENDIPITY - SEEKING INTELLIGENT LIFE ON EARTH 
I get dressed every day. But then, we live now in a block of flats and we are in the ground floor. The ONE day I was still in my nighties at 10am was, of course, the day the property maintenance guy rang the doorbell to inform me that in 30′ they’d cut the water for several hours….. I, on the other hand, wasn’t dressed because I wanted to wash my hair with taking my shower….. go figure!
Love your coat. Have absolutely no wish to buy any clothing myself. Don’t need any, either.

I mostly wear sweat pants or track pants, as I call them, or leggings around the house. However, a lot of my nightwear is leggings, track pants and old T-shirts that are past wearing as daywear so it is a bit hard to know where nightwear ends and daywear begins these days. At the moment I’m wearing old leggings and a homemade T-shirt. After I’ve showered I’ll be putting on fresh leggings or maybe yoga pants and a fresh T-shirt. I recently decided that most of my bras need to be replaced as the bands are feeling tight so if I’m not going out I may go without. I have ordered a new one and some extenders to use with the old ones that are still good.

No one is shopping so everything is REALLY on sale. And my clothing is old and needs some colors that aren’t gray, black, taupe, navy or dark red. No wonder I can’t find anything in my closet. So I splurged on some brighter colors for spring and hopefully, summer. Prices for clothing are really low.

I’ve been seeing that too and may treat myself to a couple of new things but I’d like them to be things I would wear now, not for mythical going out events.

We don’t go out much anyway. Life is not all that different than usual, just less driving. Even when we DO go places, we still wear the same clothing. We’re retired.

Funny you should mention this phenomena. About 3/4 weeks ago I was chatting outside with a few neighbors when the conversation suddenly got quiet and we all burst out laughing. We realized we were all in our jammies ( pajamas), or next best thing. I have coined this as a “Jam Session” borrowing from my musician background. Any regular “jam sessioners” here?

We’ve come a LONG way in retirement attire. I—have come a VERY LONG way. Yoga pants ARE wonderful. FLEX pants are a GODSEND.
I am enjoying your latest gifts. They fit VERY WELL and I don’t have to fold at the waist to keep ‘em on. Even the inseams are POIFECT. I could dance all night.

I love that rain jacket, Marilyn. As for what we’re wearing these days – I, too, stay in PJs or sweats unless I’m going out. Since I only go out for my Remicade treatment every 6 weeks, that means I only have to wear a bra once a month or less. Even a pandemic has its perks.

I get dressed and go to work Tuesday through Saturday, even though I am just walking to a small table in the corner of the kitchen. I feel better doing it that way.

Rich, ditto here. I have to SHAVE and SHOWER daily, sometimes multiple times if not feeling well. The SHAVING is a must—I feel “itchy and unclean” if I don’t shave even though I am going nowhere. During a power outage last week, i couldn’t shave or shower. I felt like an escaped con on the run.

I get dressed every day, Marilyn, I do my hair and put on a bit of make up too. I am wearing casual clothes, but definitely not pajamas.

I’m almost always in either a sweater or t-shirt with sweats or jeans. But to be fair, i worked in high tech and that was pretty much what everyone wore unless we had a client coming.

It is a bit warmer than I expected, but it fits really well and I love the color too. It was on sale for ONE day and I’ve been missing a raincoat/jacket for years, but they were always too expensive or too rubbery. This one is pretty much perfect. Of course, it warmed up and stopped raining the day I got it. It was supposed to rain today, but it’s warm and sunny. When I opened the back door, there were a couple of squirrels lounging on the railing. Not eating. Just hanging out in the sunshine. I guess we weren’t the only ones missing sun! I would have tried for a photograph, but I knew they’d be gone by the time I got the camera. Anyway, Duke came in and barked and in a very leisurely fashion, they wandered off. I’ve never seen a relaxed, lounging squirrel. They are always doing something, usually eating.

One way to guarantee it to stop raining is to get some new rain gear. I can just imagine those squirrels sauntering off in the sunshine…chuckle…

And you know what? I didn’t rain yesterday — when I got the jacket — or today. Got the raincoat, rain has stopped. It figures.

Well, it’s 10:20pm Sunday night and the dogs have been sleeping for two hours plus. Duke is snoring loudly, befitting his party animal self. They are re-charging their batteries, I’m sure, for tonight’s overnight barkathon for Mom and Dad. Thanks, kids.

Well, at the moment, I am still in my early morning attire of nightgown and sweat pants. I’ll change into exercise gear soon, and go for whichever of my morning outings I choose. (Run, walk or bike, early is better many fewer people about) Then I may or may not change out of those clothes into perhaps gardening attire, depends on the day. Nice raincoat and other new gear. Enjoy!

It’s warm again today. Two days in a row! Wow! Garry is a diehard exerciser. He still does his Marine Corps workout twice a day. Actually, I’ve never known him to NOT exercise. I, on the other hand, do housework. Yesterday I washed the floor, vacuumed everything, washed down the cabinets, moved the fridge and cleaned behind it (it wasn’t as bad as I feared) … and then I felt VERY exercised 🙂

Steph, concede I was “exhausted” by my role in yesterday’s house cleaning. I wore surgical mask and gloves. Not for COVID-19 but just house dirt and dust, clusters of hair everywhere, CLUSTERS of hair from Bonnie and the Duke. Both the mask and gloves were thickened with dirt, dust and dog hair when I finished. Also had to clean my hearing devices which collected the dirt. Triple “Oy”.

Getting dressed up is my daily routine. Otherwise I feel as if I am missing something.

There may come a time when i don’t bother, but I’m not there yet. Meantime, getting dressed is part of “the day,” even if nothing is happening today (or tomorrow or the day after that).
