FOTD – June 19 – ANTHURIUM
I didn’t know they could flower until this one did. Scarlet flowers on a regular philodendron, the classic green plant everyone grows in their offices.

I looked them up online. I may see if I can get a fresh pot of them. One of my transplated pot of cactus are dying, so I’ll have a leftover space for something new.

I shot with my 1.4 30mm lens and they came out exactly the way i wanted them. I didn’t know they were anthurium. Judy D-B told me. I didn’t even know I had them in that pot.

I think my secret was that I wasn’t trying. I didn’t know I had one!

Apparently my secret is occasional fertilizer, water as necessary, and try to give them enough sun. I got one small grow-light because that end of the table doesn’t get any sun from the window. I remember to turn it on once in a while. otherwise, I think most people overdo the care they give flowers. Flowers seem to like (mostly) being left alone. The more we handle them, they weaker they get.

At last I’ve finished my last big assignment for this year, so I can emerge into the light again! And what a fantastic post to emerge into. Stunning photos, Marilyn. Really beautiful, and a great answer to such a broad challenge. 🙂

What’s really funny because I didn’t know that pot had anthurium IN it. It had produced two years of orchids and a massive amount of ivy, but then, one day, voila! Scarlet flowers!

Well, it LOOKS like a philodendron, but I’m open to suggestions because i’ve never seen one of them EVER flower and that’s a lot of years of indoor gardening. Someone else told me it was a philodendron. I thought looked like some kind of lily — anthurium would fit.
