I added some calliope music for the calliope enthusiasts (I am one!) and those who have never had the pleasure of hearing a real, old-fashioned steam calliope. Enjoy!
There is no music that makes me as nostalgic as a steam calliope. There are so few working calliopes remaining anywhere … if you get a chance to spend some time with one, don’t miss it! And if you play a keyboard, playing a calliope is just something else!

Of mine, too. Now they just play recordings. But back when they really had calliopes.

I love carousels, and this music is great! Haven’t heard “The Darktown Strutter’s Ball” in years.
Every time I went to Coney Island or any other amusement park I’d head straight for the carousel.

Me too. Most of the calliopes are now in museums. There’s a museum of them in New Hampshire, so at least you can hear them play. Truly, the sound of youth.

I loved these. We used to have a steam calliope in Hobart that always travelled with The Gallopers carousel. I don’t know where it is now. I think it may have been sold out of the state but I saw it several times. It was a Dutch made one I think.

We had a great on on Long Island. They broke the amusement park up about 25 years ago. We tried to convince the mayor to buy it and put it on the Commons, but they wouldn’t pay the money. At least wherever it went, they didn’t break it into pieces as “art.”

Lost the “Like” button yet again? I’ll have to look and see if it’s me or you. But I like it too!
