BIRD WEEKLY – PHOTO CHALLENGE – BIRDS OF PREY
I’ve taken a lot of pictures of raptors in the air, flying in the distance and high above me in the sky. My closer encounters have been largely in my driveway where the red-shouldered hawks like to chow down. Of course I don’t have a camera. Naturally. But I do remind them to take their leftovers with them and remarkably, they do. I guess they don’t like missing any part of their dinner.
Garry took this one from Tom’s little inflatable boat along the river. The Osprey really picked a special spot for her nest and she is clearly not afraid of the many passing boats in the channel.

This is a more typical photo where there’s a (I think) a peregrine falcon, but so distant it’s hard to tell what it is. Whatever it is, it’s small and very fast. Also by Garry..

This is more typical of my pictures. You can see the osprey and you can just barely see the nest. It was Barnstable beach on Cape Cod. It was also a pretty sunset.

What is a slow no wake zone? Go slow so you don’t wake up the falcons? ;o)

Go slow so you don’t destroy the channel or cause other boats — like sail boats — to founder.

I kinda thought that was what it meant but the double entendre was fun.

The problem in most inland waterways are speeders. They create waves that can flip a lightweight boat and cause moored boats to bang together AND damage wetlands. It’s a big issues around here. But the double entendre was cute.
