WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

Fandango’s Dog Days of August #10: MY FAVORITE FOOD

My favorite food is anything that someone else prepared — and tastes good — and which someone other than me will clean up when the meal is finished. In the end, I don’t care exactly what kind of food it is, as long as it isn’t something really bizarre (like snail, ew). I want to be served and not wind up on clean-up detail.

It would be nice if the served food were take out Sushi with a big side dish of shrimp tempura, but if i can’t get the Japanese food, I’ll take a pizza. I’m not picky. All I want is not to have to cook and clean, slice, dice, fry, saute, or bake. Mind you, I love my kitchen  and I’m a good cook and  a good baker. I’ve been cooking and cleaning kitchens for 55 years. I think that’s enough. And once someone else takes over the cooking? I’ll be delighted to occasionally make something special for special occasions.

That’s what I REALLY want to eat.

  2. I’m so with you! I’m not a picky eater, I enjoy most foods with the exception of lima beans and turnip but somehow whatever it is, it always tastes better when someone else cooks it and I’m at that stage, I detest the clean up afterward. Mostly because it hurts to stand there to do it. I’ve always been a tidy person and messes aren’t my style but I’m learning to get used to the idea since I can only clean in increments so a sink full of dishes takes 3 attempts sometimes more. Having done myself an injury, I can’t move across the room without my walker the last week or more and I was feeling a tad bit sorry for myself, but I’m back into life again, won’t let it get me down. Onward and upward as they say. Hopefully someone else is cooking dinner! hahahahaha

  3. Pre-covid, I ate most of my dinners out — suddenly I’m having to remember how to put together a meal! I’m actually losing weight these days for eating at home!

    • I finally stepped on a scale this morning and I’ve lost 10 pounds. But we didn’t eat out much anyway. I think it’s the heat and my lack of appetite when it’s this hot. It is REALLY hot here and we haven’t had almost ANY rain. We are hoping for some by the end of the week. The trees are drying out and leaves are just falling off the trees. They need water!

      • We’ve had a few days break in the heat — in the low 80’s this past weekend — but it’s likely to be over 100 by the coming weekend. We aren’t likely to see any rain until October, although a part of what has kept us cool has been the marine layer coming in each night and being slow to clear. Stay cool!

  4. You nailed it! No more of that KP duty. My daughter has also handed in her apron. Now, w eat mostly veggies and fruits and a lot them don’t need much preparation outside of a steamer if needed. The only times real cooking occurs in this house is Thanksgiving and Christmas when we traditionally have dinner for three bachelors we’ve known for years. This year, however, is going to be a guestlesss one, so it will be the usual everyday fare. Perhaps next year we’ll be back to having traditional holiday dinners.

  5. You have a wonderful kitchen Marilyn, I know where you’re coming from wanting someone else to do the cooking – just for a change.
