KINDA LIKE THE MIDDLE OF A SMALL TOWN

Kinda like the Middle of Town

Squarely in the middle of Uxbridge, it’s easy to miss the fact that you’re in the middle of anywhere. But hey, this is where you will find a grocery store, a couple of banks, the library (the first free library in the United States), Town Hall, and our brand new firehouse. And of course, Uxbridge Town Commons and its many churches.

The picture was take by Garry on his way back from the pharmacy. It’s autumn, after all and those beautiful leaves won’t last forever.

  1. I really like this. I often see “ideas” for great photos but there are too many wires. I have often thought that the wires are a sign of how we live, one that is going under-ground in many areas. I like how you made them front and center.

    • Actually, we have a big downtown compared to a couple of other nearby towns which don’t seem to have ANY downtown. At least we have a railroad crossing and a few stores.

      • Looks like a small town set from MGM’s golden era. Mickey Rooney should be on the corner, looking for girls. Lewis Stone’s Judge Hardy is in the barber shop getting a shave. Judy Garland is getting a pedicure in the shop around the corner. Wallace Beery is drinking cheep beer at the nearest bar and Marie Dressler is cooking potato soup in the bar’s dingy kitchen. Hold on, here comes Leo the Lion, looking for Louie B. Mayer.

  4. And a very different kind of High Street to the original Uxbridge! Yours is much prettier
