Fandango’s Provocative Question #93
I remember when Google first appeared. They were SO much better than any of the other search engines that absolutely everyone signed up and most of us are STILL signed up. Because it IS the best. It sometimes has an opinion of its own, but if you are really looking for something, you can probably find it using Google. We depend on it and no, I don’t resent them — except when they change their calendar and email formats and we have to relearn how to use them.
So why do I use Google? Isn’t it obvious? The products are free and they work. Garry and I use their search, email, and calendar. I don’t use their web service because I don’t like it. They didn’t get popular by paying people off. They did it by have an incredibly powerful search engine and people who know how to manage one. Not every dominant company is necessarily taking advantage of us. Sometimes, they are just really good at doing what they do.
And yes, this is their browser. I’ve tried them all. This one’s the best.
Google it!

I really have tried every search engine, including new ones. None of them are half as good as Google was from the day they came online. Bing mostly seems to be selling Microsoft’s products. Duck duck go can’t find anything and I forget what else is out there. I think it’s reasonable that a good product gets supported and the bad ones die.

They do have a monopoly…

There are half a dozen other options. They just aren’t very good. And there were a bunch of choices when Google showed up, but THEY weren’t nearly as good either. The developed a monopoly because they are better. If I could find stuff any other way, I’d try it. But I try and it’s junk. Bing is Microsoft which is ALEADY a monopoly.

Bing sucks besides (IMHO). It reminds me of those old clunky search engines of the late 1980s and 1990s. You had to be so very specific and even though you got mediocre results.
