BIRD WEEKLY – PHOTO CHALLENGE – BIRDS WITH A “B” IN THE TITLE OF THEIR NAME
There are a lot of blue birds, but most of them down have a “B” in their names. These were the only ones I could think of of which I had any pictures. Bluebirds, Blue Jays, and the Great Blue Heron.
I couldn’t even think of a bird with a B unless the B can be in the middle of the word. I was assuming as the title of the name, first letter. But these blue birdies are sweet anyway.

A beautiful selection of blue birds, Marilyn.

Marilyn,
My father loved birds and could sit on my deck and identify any bird that stopped by.
When he was a kid he actually raised pigeons on the roof of their apartment building in Springfield, MA.
Your pictures of birds remind me of him. Thank you.

My first husband’s sister was a serious birdwatcher and she kind of sucked me into it. I’m not devoted to it, but I really enjoy watching them. The squirrels too. Also, given this year, they have been a link to the wild world and boy, did I need that.

There’s the Blue footed Booby, but I’d imagine you don’t have any of them near you.

I have heard of them, though and someone sent me a Tasmanian calendar with bird pictures. Boobys are just like big seagulls. Klutzier looking, but seabirds.

You look like you were standing next to that Heron!

I was about 400 feet away. Ah the glories of a 600 mm lens. That was a great camera.

Wonderful “B” Birds this week, Marilyn. I love the whole blue theme you got going on. Great captures and especially that Blue Jay flying into the feeder. You got photobombed by a Chickadee for extra points. LOL! 🙂

There was also a Red-bellied Woodpecker IN the feeder. The BJ was trying to scare the woodpecker, but nothing scares a woodpecker. So right after this, BJ decided he needed to be up on a branch.
The Chickadees are always falling off branches and landing in the feeder. They think it’s funny. Seriously, they fall off branches and don’t open their wings until they are almost ON the ground — or in the feeder. They are the funniest little birds and spectacular fliers.

That is an awesome account of your feathered friends. Blue Jays are pretty overbearing but the Mockingbird can take the Blue Jay. Only ones that can. LOL! Mockingbirds are the bullies of the song birds. That’s why they are the state bird of Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee & Mississippi. BTW: I love the story about the chickadees. I’ve never seen that behavior and would love to.

My son used to have a barn and the chickadees would roll down the roof and take off before they hit the ground. They actually PLAY. I’ve never seen other birds play. But these little guys are really funny.
In the greater scheme of friends, the woodpecker took them ALL down. The original Angry Birds had to be woodpeckers.

LOL! I agree with that! 🙂 I would love to see those chickadees in action.

They can be really funny. I wonder what makes these little guys so playful.

Thanks. I was surprised at how few names there were. Even with the B in the middle, there still weren’t many. I suppose I could have added the “rose-breasted nuthatch” or “red-bellied woodpecker,” but that didn’t seem to be right. Anyway, these were the only B birds where the B was the birds name — or title? Do birds have titles? Like Prince of Jays or King of Herons?
