Questions, questions, questions – World Sharing as Christmas nears
What is your favorite type of cookie (they’re called biscuits in Europe I believe)?
Plain sugar cookies. Very crisp, covered with crystalized sugar. It’s hard to find them. I think I’ll have to bake them myself.
If you could choose one age and remain that forever, what would it be and why?
I think maybe mid to late thirties. Young enough to do something new. Memory intact and most parts still working. Old enough to know better, but young enough to do it anyway.
Do you have a traditional drink during the holiday season?
We used to drink eggnog. Originally with booze, but Garry’s been on the wagon for a long time and I was never much of a drinker. Also, commercial eggnog isn’t eggnog. I’m not sure what they put in it, but it’s not the whipped cream or ice cream or anything natural. Eggnog is REALLY caloric. Just pour it directly on your ass and hips and watch them blow up. So while I could make some, I’m thinking maybe not.
Otherwise, I got an interesting recipe for Glogg that is non-alcoholic. I might try it. I haven’t decided yet. It depends on whether anyone else is interested.
Are you able to still believe in holiday magic as you did when you were a child?
I never believed in holiday magic. I’m Jewish. Unless you count oil on Chanukah, we aren’t big on magic. Mostly, I envied all the kids who got piles of gifts that I wished I got. I got over it as I turned into my teen years, but it really bothered me when I was a little kid.
Gratitude?
Hey, we’re still here and no one is sick — not counting the standard chronic ailments older people seem to collect. Supposedly, in theory, maybe, a vaccine will come our way. We live in hope and meanwhile? I’m making either pea soup or lentil soup with leftover ham. We have quite a bit of it. I’m hoping we have lamb for Christmas. If not, it’ll be a BIG stuffed chicken!

I definitely agree with answer to your second question.., mid to late 30s.

It’s a good age. You’re not old, but you’re not a child. You have a whole world of choices.

Yup eggnog is dynamite on the waist and hips.

It’s one of the most potent holiday fatteners I know of. I don’t think frosted cake is as lethal.

I had a taste for Christmas sugar cookies and didn’t feel like baking them myself. Fortunately, our local grocery store had a very nice display of their in-house bakery cookies – including nice, crisp Christmas-tree shaped sugar cookies with green and red sugar crystals. Yum! Every bit as good as mine. As for magic, I’ve always believed in magic and miracles no matter the season. Sometimes things happen that just can’t be explained any other way.

Those are the ones I love! Our store is out of so many things this year. And because I haven’t gone shopping, all those things i used to look for are gone — for this year, anyway.
