BIRDS IN OR NEAR THE WATER OR SNOW
Wow, do I have pictures for you! We got more than a foot of snow earlier this week. It has been below freezing all week, so nothing has melted. Maybe next week? Or maybe this will be one of those years when the snow just keeps piling up until it looks like Siberia on a bad year. Of course, this is the year during which we haven’t gone anywhere. I know that this will end, but I have to wonder when. I want to be alive when being alive is better than it is today.
Meanwhile, the birds have been flutteringly hysterical about food. We now have THREE feeders and we toss out at least another quart or two of seeds onto the deck since the bigger birds, like doves, can’t cling to feeders and our flat feeder isn’t big enough for the doves. Next year I’ll put out a bigger flat feeder, but we need to reconfigure where we are putting it. Our official “post” for hanging stuff is about as full as it can be, so when it is warmer, Owen will install another post. The current post looks gnawed. It’s not the kind of wood woodpeckers can eat — and it has no bugs — but they feel they need to just check it out with a peck or two.
Let me not neglect our water birds.

I love your selection of birds this week! The squirrel kinda stole the show. I love your titmouse…the look on his face is priceless! The swans are a hit with me too because I haven’t ever seen them. One of these days! Wonderful gallery once again! 🙂

All our white (mute) swans are originally English imports. They early settlers brought them from England and they have spread all over north America and Canada.

We were just talking about that a couple of days ago. 🙂

The squirrels eating upside down crack me up! Maybe that means the calories don’t count. Kind of like eating over the kitchen sink or with the fridge door open–look, Ma! No calories!

Apparently it has to do with the shape of their jaws, or that is what I’ve been told.
