Despite everything, Duke’s getting it through his head that everyone is not going to give him treats every time they go in the kitchen. He doesn’t bother to get up in the morning with me unless I call him. If I call him, he figures “treats” are coming. Otherwise, he’ll sleep on the bed until Garry gets up. The same thing when I go into the kitchen in the evening. He will stay “asleep” (he really isn’t asleep — he’s faking it) until I call him. But if I don’t call him, at night (guaranteed treat time), he will remind me of my obligation. Good boy!

my cat wakes me up by touching my face and talking/chirping at me. when I go downstairs for breakfast, she stands by her empty bowl chirping again, and stands in the kitchen staring at me make my breakfast before I get hers. master manipulator )

Maybe Duke can teach me something. I have a problem going to the kitchen and not expecting to give myself a treat…

I am always grateful the Duke doesn’t have thumbs. He would be the size of a short-legged rhino.

Naomi’s two dogs, Teddy and Toby are also on a limited treats diet as Teddy needs to get a bit of weight off to get him under 10kg and it wouldn’t be fair for Toby to get a treat if Teddy doesn’t. Usually when they are here they get a dental bone in the morning, a treat in the afternoon and another in the evening. They are not happy campers especially Teddy who likes his food. He has been quite vocal about it lecturing us both about how he is wasting away without the extra goodies but we are staying hard hearted.

I love when Duke is standing right front of us barking and whining and telling me he is shaking from starvation. Meanwhile, he’s got a big, plump ass. These guys MIGHT be a little spoiled. You think?

TOO clever, Sadje. And, he’s quicker than “Bruce”, the star of “Jaws”. Food left unguarded for seconds is snatched away. You are left with a clean, spotless plate. No evidence.

That does makes him super stealthy too.
