I suppose I should be angry, but instead, I’m just so sad. This is horrible.
AMERICA’S DAY OF SHAME
A mob of unruly protesters has taken over the U.S. Capitol as senators and representatives debated the Electoral College vote confirming the election of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.
The 45th president, meanwhile, sat in the Oval Office and watched the proceedings after egging on the protesters to make their feelings known about the democratic process taking place in the Capitol.
More coverage of this coup attempt and shameful day in American history as events develop.
With guns drawn, Capitol law enforcement officers attempt to prevent Trump protesters from entering the House chambers.
A Trump thug sits in the Senate president’s chair on the dais in the Senate chambers.

I can’t believe this is our reality. My Father taught history when he began his very long career in education. I wanted to follow his footsteps. The day this man was elected I went into a bit of a depression wondering how I can place him in a list of those we are to hold in high regard. When I see Mt. Rushmore and travel to the National Parks and look across our beautiful landscapes, I can’t help but have a knot in my stomach because of the hate he has spewed and the embarrassment I feel. Yes, I have faith in my ultimate authority. But this down here is a mess-a travesty-it’s sickening. It’s a shame. And it’s no surprise, sadly, that he would stoop to this level on his way out.

It’s ugly. But you know, it was going to get violent. It had to. Trump has been pushing the violence and every day throwing more gasoline on the fire. He never promised a peaceful transition of power. Where were the National Guards and all the police? How were these thugs so able to trash the capitol? It has been a LONG day and there are a lot of questions that need answering. I don’t know if we’ll ever get answers.

It’s surreal and sad. I can’t believe it wasn’t secured in advance. I was hoping it was all a bad dream. And then it’s reality again today.

Sad, tragic and symptomatic of a tyrant given power

The only thing that could make this better would be for Trump to tell the truth. Since THAT’s not going to happen, I hate to say this, but this might not be the end.

I don’t know what happened to the cops and the national guard. Who called them off? Who told them to not be where they should have been? This was NOT a surprise. Everyone knew it was coming. EVERYONE.

Yeah, like where were the police and the National Guard?

Trump had been calling for protests for days. Did the Capitol police and national guard lay back at his request? Someone (in addition to Trump) should be in jail over this.

And so I think, too.

Remove him now and lock him up.

It could get worse. I think just lock him in a padded room and don’t let him out until AFTER the inauguration.

It might not be over yet. Because unless they physically REMOVE Trump, he’s going to keep throwing gasoline on that fire.

I’m also baffled at the failure of the cops and the Natl. Guards to BE there. They had to wait hours for them to show up. How could that be? Trump’s been calling for violence for a long time and now he’s desperate. So unless they physically push Trump out of the White House, it’s going to happen again, probably on Inauguration day.

I think they may need to anesthetize him in order to get him out of the WH — maybe a recurrence of his Covid-19 symptoms?

Seriously. Rubber room. Heavy tranquillizers. NO computer. NO telephone. NO cellphone. NO windows. Let him out about a month AFTER inauguration.

I cannot believe what we are seeing unfold in D.C.
Yes, I have seen a LOT in my 40 plus years as a reporter but THIS — this is beyond the PALE.
SHAME on 45. I cannot mention his name – it sticks in my craw. SHAME on those who follow his directive. SHAME on those who don’t have the courage to confront him.
This began with joy in the morning. It has become a nightmare.
Can you imagine what the rest of the world is thinking as they watch these scenes in the “cradle of liberty”?
SHAME!

Trump has forever sullied the name of America to the rest of the world. He looks like a banana republic dictator and we look like fools for electing this criminal in the first place.

I think an awful lot of us ARE fools.

Following events on the live blog. Trump has endangered the lives of members of both Houses by inciting his supporters and should be held responsible for this. I see that so far he has not told them to stop.

He should be in jail for treason. Many of his enablers are guilty of sedition and should be in jail with him.
