SHARE YOUR WORLD 2-23-2021
Funny how fast the world changes. Yesterday, hospitals were no longer allowed to distribute COVID-19 vaccinations but oddly enough, today that rule has vanished like chaff before the wind. I suspect I’m not the only one who went slightly ballistic over that piece of idiotic non-logic.
Hospitals are back. This doesn’t mean that there are any vaccinations available, mind you, but in theory they will be available. Any time. I hope it’s around my birthday. I think a full year in lockdown is patience enough for one old lady.
I live in a permanent state of hope. It’s not exactly optimism, but it’s a step short of total gloom. It’s the optimistic end of the doom and gloom continuum.
Instead of snow, we have rain today. The bitter cold vanished. Today we have ‘above average’ temperatures and it will be downright spring-like by the end of the week. We’ve had above and below average temps, but nothing on target.
While Oklahoma was freezing and flooding and blacking out, we’ve been getting a kind of normal winter. Snow, but nothing outrageous or abnormal. Some very cold weather, some warmer weather, lots of people complaining about the weather which is a New England “thing.” We always complain about the weather, no matter what it’s doing. Three out of four seasons, we have a legitimate excuse for that. Only in the autumn is the weather — in a good year — perfect.
So about those questions:
QUESTIONS:
Have you ever ‘butt dialed” someone? (‘butt dialed’ means have you ever made a phone call that you weren’t aware of making, because the buttons on the phone got pushed by your sitting on them (in your pocket) OR having something in your handbag press against them?)
No. But I have had a lot of conversations disconnected when an earring hit the “off” button. Many, many disconnects from jewelry mishaps. That’s sort of the same thing — at least conceptually. I have also had the television channel changed by the paws and butts of many pets. I keep my phone on a stand to prevent that, but the remotes are on their own.
If you were given 1000 acres of land, what would you do with it?
Does it come with money? Like enough to build a house? Or just land in some variation on a theme of nature-scape?
If it’s just land, I’d leave it alone and let the animals and wildflowers thrive. I might even turn it into protected land so no one can develop it, though I’ve noticed that when the owner of such donated properties pass, it’s odd how somehow, their protectedness rapidly disappears. But I could give it a try.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen on-line recently?
Not much online. Some amusing TV shows. I have even seen some really funny greeting cards, but I’m not a big online reader of anything except blogs — which mostly aren’t funny. However, let me state that if you can be funny, now would be a really great time. I need all the humor I can find. Anything that makes me laugh is worth 10 times anything that make me cry.
Have you ever eaten something off the floor? ‘5 second’ rule applies or not (the ‘5 second rule’ is that if you pick up the dropped food within a set time frame, it’s still ‘clean’ and you can safely eat it)?
Of course I have. I’m not letting that piece of expensive whatever it is be eaten by El Duque. Unless it’s some kind of meat, in which case before I’d have time to get it, he has already eaten it. He’s one of those dogs who can leap into the air and get it long before it hits the floor. Which is how I feed him because otherwise, he thinks the tips of my fingers are yummy in the tummy.
Gratitude
Thank you thank you and thank you again to my son’s boss who lent us the money to replace our water tank, which is where the water from our well gets turned into water with pressure so it can reach the rest of the house. It started to fall apart and leak yesterday — after 15 years. We are pretty much tapped out, but we can’t not fix this. It explains why we’ve been having trouble getting water pressure all of a sudden.
Also, we have a sudden arrival of a small flock of Purple Finches. Purple Finches are not purple or at least, I don’t think they are purple. They are red but are considered “raspberry-colored,” which I think is red, but maybe other people think is purple? They very closely resemble House Finches, but are more red in more places, have less obvious barring on wings and tail. They are considered rare, so when I reported it I got a little birdy achievement medal. Cool, huh?

Thank you Marilyn for Sharing Your World and those beautiful photos! That bird is gorgeous!! I’m glad you got recognition for reporting it too! In this house Ziggy is the ‘gobbler’ of food that might fall to the floor, and I rarely have to worry about picking such things up again. Especially meat. I think dogs thrive on their meat treats! If you truly are in need of some pick me ups with the spirits and so forth, try Bluebird of Bitterness. She’s a blogger on WordPress and her posts are routinely funny (well she does some classical music posts too) and her side bar? Would amuse you greatly!! Have a wonderful week and thank the gods for good and kind bosses, hmmm?

It really saved our butts. We’d been having some water issues which we assumed had to do with the new boiler and recent adjustments, until Owen saw that wet floor and said “Uh oh!” It was installed in 2006 direct from Home Depot, so it was more than ready to be replaced. It’s just that it’s so unending. I would have like a year off between major repairs. I’m hoping this is the last emergency for a while. There are plenty of other things that need to be done, but none are at the ER level. Yet.
I actually have a really funny story to tell and I need to write it down before I forget the details. It proves that customer service, glitchy computers software, and helpless tech support can, in the end, be hilarious.

Yes, very. He has been very nice to us before. Such a rare thing in anyone these days, much less a boss!

It is rare indeed. And it should be more common.
