Bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and hungry, too
I was up very early this morning because the Blue Jays were deeply offended that at 7 in the morning, their breakfast hadn’t yet arrived. They get more raucous everyday. It was cold and I was in a cotton night gown with bare feet. Yes, my feet were cold and I dropped the screen from one of the flat feeders over the fence. Fortunately, Owen hadn’t left for work yet, so he was able to retrieve it. He though I was insane being outside in 30 degree (that’s a little below freezing) weather in bare feet and I agreed, but the birds and this very bright-eyed, bushy-tailed baby squirrel. I think maybe he is working on getting well-rounded too!

Funny. I just started seeing more squirrels hanging out closer to the garden, probably because the grass is growing like mad and there’s more to do.
But weirdly enough, I found one on the garden fence (just cattle fencing). And it was laying right on the centerline, forelegs balanced in the middle, one hind leg on the inside, one on the out. I had my bb gun ready to go as it just lay there, like it was thinking, and I was like “Choose your fate, furry one.”
I like them around generally because they keep the cats away and let the birds eat, but I don’t want them getting comfortable with the idea of going in my fence and digging around in my garden.

This one has an eating disorder.

He’s still a cutie. And, I believe he’s out there eating, again, as I write.
Nice teeth. Does he have a dental plan?

Sharpening those teeth to bite the hand that feeds? Tell Marilyn to be careful!!

Lois, Marilyn was the inspiration for Disney’s Birdwoman in “Mary Poppins”.

He was definitely bright eyed and bushy tailed. He is also rounding up nicely. By the time he is full grown, his butt will be wider than the feeder!

Becky, why don’t we let our squirrels meet? Strangers when they meet but love is in the air, Becky.

Probably the bare feet on the deck was not my best idea, but the kids were STARVING. Owen finished off the feeding and told me to PLEASE put some shoes on. I guess I’ve recovered from my second vaccine if I’m outside in 30 degree weather barefoot because the birds and squirrels need me! It’s possible we are getting a bit lonely.

Yes.. what we are driven to for company. Have you had your vaccinations yet?

Yes. JUST finished my second. I got righteously ill after the second hit, but it was just one day of being sick and then it was much better, then almost well and today fine. Garry’s finished. Owen has one more to go. You, I assume, are done? I keep hoping the weather will warm up a bit. It’s still really COLD here. It’s spring everywhere else, but it’s late winter in the northeast. We are trying to get together with some old colleague friends from Garry’s work, but they aren’t finished with their vaccinations quite yet. And everyone is a little slow to pull out of quarantine. It has been a long time and I think we’ve kind of forgotten.

Life, Marilyn is more than generous. The word is out among the birds, squirrels and the other creatures in our forest — Chow time at the Armstrongs and the price is right.

It was perfect. I knew the title because the post came in late last night, so when I saw the baby squirrel — and he is SOOO cute and getting so nicely rounded, too … well … what could I do but feed the children?
