IT’S NATIONAL DOG’S MOM’S DAY!

No, really. It is. According to my National Day calendar, it’s a good day for extra hugs, special food, and maybe a nice picture or two.

NATIONAL DOG MOMS DAY

During the second Saturday in May, National Dog Mom’s Day sends out a chorus of yips, barks, and howls of praise for all the dog mommas!

Our dogs are our family members, whether they came into our lives unexpectedly or as carefully planned additions. We adopt them as puppies, adolescents, or fully mature animals with a bit of baggage, and yet, we find common ground, a connection, and bond like families do. They know our moods, and we know theirs. We care for them, shelter them, and share an immeasurable loyalty with them.

National Dog Mom’s Day recognizes the bond women share with their fur kids. When they humor us, charm us or even when they are naughty, they are like any other child to us. HOW TO OBSERVE #DogMomsDay

I don’t actually think the Duke could be better fed. We stopped buying dog food and I cook the same chopped beef for him that we eat for our diinner. I add some veggies — baby carrots and green beans. No onions, garlic. No sugar. A tiny bit of salt. Mixed with high quality kibble. Treats early in the morning and evening because, well, you know, he needs treats. Needs them. I know this because he told me.

So tomorrow is his special day. Is buying him special tick and flea protection enough?

  1. What a sweety pie…so cute, the big old dog sign and the wee little pup.

    • Broccoli gives ME gas. I can only imagine what it would do to his digestion! One of the reasons I cook for him is that the price of dog food went from $10 for 12 cans, each 22 ounces to $26 for six 14-ounce cans. But also, the contents was pretty dubious. Tons of soy meal and a lot of water. For the price of a 12-pack of dog food, I can buy a month of fresh minced beef, cook it — which takes maybe 10 minutes — mix the whole thing with a bit of kibble and we are both happier. Also, the gas level drops considerably!

  2. I never heard of that holiday but I’m in favour. Will tell the dogs that they should be getting something for us next year. 🙂

    • I don’t think dogs celebrate holidays for humans. That would be hilarious, though. Could they get to the store and buy special cards? Wrap us up nice bones or something interesting they found in the yard? What a hoot!

      • Well I guess Dad would have to take them to the store or buy for them like people do for little kids. Actually Naomi and I sometimes each add a fun small gift under the Xmas tree which is meant to be from the pets and sometimes they even send us cards.
