“Painted” Orchids: A Floral Rescue
Owen rescued this set of orchids for death by over-watering. She swears she only watered them twice, but it must have been an awful lot of water because they are sodden. I drained all the water I could, put some orchid fertilizer in it, popped it into our window and I hope for the best. Compared to my other two orchids, there are quite small, but awfully pretty. They look as if they were dipped in rich purple dye.

BEAUTIFUL! IT’S ALWAYS A WONDER HOW FLOWERS CAN BE SO DELICATE AND STRONG SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Usually orchids are very sturdy. I think that’s one of the things that makes them so popular. If you are patient and wait until they flower, they flower for months. Very rewarding after all the waiting. These are a little “soft.” They have been very over-watered and there’s nothing more I can do to dry them out except not water them. The flowers are wilting already and there are no buds waiting, so this must be the end of their cycle. I hope they come back.

Really unusual colour. Looks strong enough to survive!

Everything depends on the roots. They have been hugely over-watered, but if rot hasn’t set in they will come back. I hope so. They are very pretty and completely different than my other two orchids.

Yes, I hope they make it too, as they really are unusual…
