GREEN LEAVES, TALL WEEDS, AND THE BLACKSTONE – By GARRY ARMSTRONG

FOTD – June 5 – Green, green, green

We went out today. Down to the Blackstone in Rhode Island. We hadn’t been there in more than a year. it was not a really thrilling photographic experience, but I did manage to snap a few pictures that aren’t bad. Not exciting because there was nothing exciting going on. Not so much as a goose or a duck to be seen. No swimmers or kayaks, either. No people. No dogs.

I was reminded why we don’t take a lot of pictures in the summer. Other than the garden — which ought to be blooming but isn’t — it’s just lots of big, green trees accompanied by giant green weeds. There aren’t even any flowers growing along the banks of the Blackstone. We’ll have to go to the other end of the river next time we go out.

    • There were. I was also surprised, given the wild overgrowth of plants, how few insects were around. It’s possible they sprayed recently. Massachusetts only sprays if we get the lethal viral carrying mosquitoes, but Rhode Island always sprays. I have mixed feeling about it since I hate the mosquitoes — and we have a small pond on the property where I’m sure they breed — but I worry about the birds and other wildlife.

Meanwhile, the rivers look healthy after that long rain and another smaller one yesterday. Maybe we won’t be in full drought this year. That would be a great for everyone!
