Marilyn and I were planning to go out and take pictures yesterday, but it rained the entire night before. Everything was muddy so we waited until today. It was an absolutely beautiful day. Warm, dry, sunny, and not hot.
It was also the busiest day we’ve ever seen by the canal. There were people on both sides of the river. All the picnic tables were full and the barbecues were fired up.
Both kids and adults were fishing. There were kayaks up and down the river. I think after a year of hiding in the house, everyone is very happy to be outside.
There are a lot more pictures, but we got back late and Marilyn — the processor — didn’t have time to take care of all of them. So there will be more to come!

He was using the Leica and I was using the Pen F. I seem to plan to use other cameras and have them all set up, but for some reason, I wind up using the Pen F most of the time. Garry has other cameras, including the MK3 set up, but somehow seems to revert to the Leica.
The Leica takes amazingly good pictures with nearly perfect color balance, unlike the Pen F where I always have to twitch the color to get it to look the way it really looked. I keep being amazed at HOW good that little camera is. The Pen F is the most compact of my Olympus cameras. It’s not the smallest of my cameras or the most compact, but except for it producing rather overly intense colors, there’s just something about it. Also, I think having the 25 to 200mm lens on it makes it the most versatile camera and bought a holster for it that also makes it the easiest camera to carry, especially considering how chunky that lens is.
I keep promising to do some swapping of cameras because I want to take the M1 out for a field trial, but I’ve got the 100-300mm on it and mostly, I use it for birds and small wildlife and it’s always very near at hand when I’m looking out the window. The original OMD mark nothing either wears the macro lens of my 30mm Sigma which is the fastest lens I have and insanely sharp — and the lens just fits into the mix as the one camera (at f1.4) I can use indoors without a flash and still get a viable image from it. I wanted to buy the 60mm lens, but accidentally bought a second 30mm, so now I have two of them, so if I ever get my act together, I’ll send you one since I have no earhly use for two of them.
We are creatures of habit. I’ve used the MK III a few times and Garry’s used it a couple of times, but we haven’t been out a lot this year. It was either too hot, raining, freezing, or the air was so full of pollen I couldn’t breathe. Today it’s raining and I’m glad we didn’t wait until today to go out. I think maybe the rain is beginning to let up, but it’s going to be mud city outside.
I spent one LONG day unearthing ALL my cameras — not counting the ones I’ve stashed in some other room because I never use them and probably never will (and I’m not even sure what cameras they are!). I either have to go out and take more pictures (and rotate which cameras I’m using) or carry more cameras when we do venture forth.
I have enough issues carrying one camera and my regular bag. I don’t see myself carrying even more gear. So I guess I have to start rotating — which means moving lenses around. The problem is as soon as I start moving lenses around, I get confused about what lenses I should be taking and I spend too much time figuring out what I should bring.
I do think I should swap the 25-200mm to the M1 because I have a feeling I’ll get very different pictures. The color balance on the M1 — not to mention the sharpness and speed — are kind of amazing (which is why it is such a good birding camera). I don’t think the Pen F would be a good birding camera. It’s a bit quirky but I LIKE the quirkiness. Usually.

LOOKS AS IF EVERYONE IS ENJOYING THE DAY. PROBABLY IN YOUR TERRITORY THE COVID IS NOT A THREAT. HERE, I’D STILL BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT MINGLING. WEATHER HERE IS ALSO PLEASANT. PICTURES OF THE WATER MAKE ME WISH WE HAD THAT KIND OF COUNTRY HERE IN MY TOWN. I’LL JUST TAKE MY PLEASURE VICARIOUSLY.

Sadje, thank you. We had a wonderful day for the pics. It was terrific to see all those folks out and enjoying themselves. Folks were very amiable and chatty. A great day for the human race.

Sadje, I understand. I’m still a bit shy. But my old TV persona takes over in public, enabling me to chat with strangers. One fella engaged Marilyn and me in non stop chatter for a prolonged period of time. We managed “goodbyes” without any awkwardness. it was obvious that the gent had a severe case of cabin fever/loneliness and needed to chat. So, you just listen. REALLY listen and respond. Old fashion civility, I believe.
