A Post-Orwellian World – Reblog by Fandango

I think we are long past Orwellian. We’ve moved into a new era. I really hate it. Not the article. Just this world.

This, That, and The Other

A conservative Nevada group called the Nevada Family Alliance has proposed putting body cameras on teachers to stop them from teaching Critical Race Theory.

Critical Race Theory is a way of understanding how American racism has shaped public policy. At its core is the idea that racism is a social construct, and that it is not merely the product of individual bias or prejudice, but also something embedded in legal systems and policies.

The Washoe County (Nevada) School District has said that Critical Race Theory isn’t part of its curriculum. But they have proposed to incorporate equity, diversity, and racism into its K-5 curriculum.

“You guys have a serious problem with activist teachers pushing politics in the classroom, and there’s no place for it, especially for our fifth graders,” Nevada Family Alliance director Karen England told trustees.

  1. Its so depressing! 😦

  2. It’s sad that people who supposedly scream for individual liberties work tirelessly to take away individual liberties from those who differ fro. Their own narrow perspectives.

  3. And, incidentally, I reblogged this post. Couldn’t have said it any better, so I let YOU say it.

  4. We have been fighting the same battles since before this country was a country. The battle for decent medical care, for some form of social security that actually secures people. The battle to end gunfights and of course, the endless battle to end racism. We don’t seem to make any progress. I’m beginning to think we never WILL make any progress.

    • I agree completely with the theme of this blog as I also heard this story on NPR this afternoon. I can’t get it into my head that government would try and depress our history for political reasons, instead of owning up to the fact.., and it is a fact, that suppression of certain ethnic groups is systemically done. The Laws are right there on the books of the sates deploying them, for any and all to see. The direction of the SCOTUS should be pursuing and helping to eliminate this kind of CRAP from our society. Only then can we be called “home of the brave, with freedom for all.” We need to clean our own house before we attempt to tell anyone what to do in theirs. We’ve become a laughing stock, world wide, because of our contradictory ways. We say one thing and do another. IT HAS TO STOP!

      • Ben, we are fighting the same battles today that we were fighting 100, 200, 300 years ago and I’m pretty sure we’ll still be fighting them 100 years from now — if we last that long. If climate change and disease don’t kill us all. I know that Garry and I are wondering these days if we have made ANY progress in our lifetimes. Did we accomplish anything?
