Dark green boughs heavy with leaves means deep summer in the valley. We are a wonderland of trees.
We had two sunny days, but today, it rained. Tomorrow they are promising more sun. Here’s hoping they got it right.

And now, for a song from long ago. Sherm Feller (the song’s writer) was a public address announcer for the Red Sox at Fenway Park and a friend of Garry’s. It’s the only song he wrote, but it’s a good one.

It gets in your head and is hard to forget. And the words are about as easy as they get.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker. They look so much like the Flickers it can be hard to tell them apart. I’m pretty sure that’s a Red-bellied Woodpecker (they don’t really HAVE a red belly, but I guess you can’t call all of them redheads) because his feathers were white, but some of them are rather light green and they are probably yellow-shafted Flickers. But since all of them shift colors by season, it can get very hard to tell one from another.

I’ve had the same problem trying to decide between them, Marilyn.

They are so similar that even when they are next to each other in a feeder or on a tree, WITH the book in one hand, I still am not sure. Especially since everything looks a little green in the woods because with all the rain, it’s REALLY green there.
