JULY ENDS & I’M SHARING MY WORLD

Share Your World 7-27-2021

Ever since you mentioned it on a previous post, I’ve been trying to figure out if I get aggravated when challenges show up late. The answer is yes, but that’s because I’m sure it’s either my crappy ISP, Google, or WordPress. I’m sure they are out to get me.

But real live people? Hey, we’re human. We get tired. Busy. Sometimes, we just don’t feel like doing it. I have a lot of days when I don’t get around to doing anything until very late in the evening. It’s procrastination and sometimes, an almost stubborn personal and intentional laziness. I hope no one gets mad at me, but that’s why I stopped publishing challenges. I’m already doing more than I think I should. I don’t want to push myself any harder.

So if you are having a rough day and are late? I’ll assume Charter is screwing with me — or Google is stuck — or WordPress is messed up. Or, I accidentally deleted the post in an effort to get my inbox down to a reasonable number. Unless you tell me otherwise, I’ll never assume it’s you — and if you tell me it’s you, I’ll figure you’re just being human and you just didn’t feel like doing it. I like your challenges and I’d miss them if they went away, but I’d also understand. Especially since I don’t post challenges at all.

Challenges are a lot more work than they seem to be and I’m impressed at all of you who work at posting them on time or otherwise.

Meanwhile, as July is ending, I totally don’t believe that we are heading into August. Where has the summer gone? Hell, where have the last couple of years gone?

And now …

Do you believe in second chances?

Like so many others, the answer depends on the situation, the context, the time in history. Are we talking about a hardened criminal with a long history of being evil? A serial killer or rapist? A chronic drunk driver? Or is it someone who made a mistake and won’t make the same mistake again? There’s a huge difference.

As an example, many things are now legal that were previously illegal. My heart goes out to all those people who got busted for smoking pot when you can now buy it anywhere or grow your own. They should reimburse and apologize to all those people who went to jail before the laws changed.

Is your glass half full or half empty?

Again, reference what? If we want to go by “years,” my life “glass” is more than half empty. More like three-quarters. Unless I’m going to live to a 148 (no, no, no!), I’m in that final “last quarter.” It could be less, depending on a lot of things I don’t know and maybe don’t want to know.

If we are talking about contentment and/or happiness? Personally, life is good, but if I look at “the world”? It’s a mess out there! I’m not sure that humanity isn’t in its final quarter.

Would you rather someone be honest and hurt your feelings or lie to protect them?

I hate sounding so repetitive, but it depends. Am I on my deathbed and my “honest friend” is pointing out how much I’m going to suffer? Shut up! This is not the time to be cruel in the name of honesty.

I think we should be what we feel is right. Mostly, I appreciate honesty, but there are times when that is not what I need or want. Be careful when your honesty seems more brutal than truthful. Make sure your “honesty” isn’t a cheesy way to be mean.

When have you felt your biggest adrenaline rush?

Probably when it should have been hitting the top of the charts, I was numb and getting done what needed doing. I’m not counting the rush you get going down the first dip on a rollercoaster or, if you are so inclined, sky diving for the first time. I thinking more of real life danger — your own or that of someone you are with — and your responses.

Under “real life” situations, I’m cool as a cucumber. I’m not really cool and definitely no kind of cucumber, but I got mentally rather numb and don’t feel much of anything until the crisis has passed. Then it all hits me at once.

  2. Thank you Marilyn for Sharing Your World! I don’t mind repetitive actually. It’s sensible in the case of this particular set of questions. As long as you find a little time to share your amazing photography, and Garry finds a moment or two to share one of his stories, I wouldn’t worry a whole lot about not ‘doing more blogging.’ People know you and flock to your blog and come away feeling better than when they visited in the first place (well I do at any rate) and that’s the POINT IMHO. Thanks for those kind words though. I admit I feel a tad guilty for not getting to everything I feel I ought to in a day. That’s the part about aging that might just be a carefully hidden secret….just how danged tired one gets doing stuff they used to consider ordinary when they were younger. My jets do need refreshing and a while back (couple of years ago now I think) I actually took Sundays “off” to do just that. I have a worse problem with it in the summer than the winter though. I hope things are well, and your aquifers and lakes are a lot fuller than they were coming into July! Yay for the rain…now can you send some out here? We’re drying up… LOL Have a great week!

    • I’ve had to cut back on so many different things, but yeah, the tiredness is kind of the final insult. I need more sleep and my endurance is often missing. I try to go gently with others, too. We are ALL getting older and I frankly think that losing this long period to lockdown cost some of us a lot more than others. I don’t know how many years I’ve got left, but I know it’s a lot less than it was and losing a couple is not a small thing.

I feel bad about not reading as much and even worse about doing so much less writing. Most of the things on my mind right now are not ready for prime time. They may be, eventually, but now I’m still thinking and figuring out how I really feel.

I thought that by the time you got to this age, life would get simpler, but it’s not true. You have fewer things to do, but you don’t have less to think about — OR less to worry about.

I wish we could send you some rain. It always seems to unfair that while half the country is drying up and burning, the other half is drowning. For all our progress, weather is one of those things over which we have no control. We should at least be able to move clouds around.

Thanks for keeping up with this challenge. I know it’s a lot more work than most people think. After six months of it, I was done. I felt like I was back at work, just without the pay.

Try to enjoy some of the summer. We are living in a cloud of smoke from Canadian fire that have blown down here. Fenway park was nearly invisible yesterday because of the smoke and anyone with asthma or other breathing issues has been warned to stay inside. The fires are more than 500 miles away, but we have the smoke. The world is getting more and more toxic. I hope we fix it soon — before it’s too late.
