A Photo a Week Challenge: Gates and Fences
Wherever I go, I always find myself taking pictures of gates and fences. Some people are into doors, but I guess I like doors on the outside!

Thank you. Around here, fences — wood and metal and mostly, stone — are everywhere. It’s actually become a part of the culture of the region.

Everything in New England is fenced. It’s all those stones. As farmers cleaned up the areas for farming, they started piling the stones along the edges of the field. It’s how we got all these stone fences.

I’m more a ‘doors and windows’ photographer myself but I do like this set of photos, especially the ones with the birds and that gorgeous magnolia!

That was the last year for that magnolia, too. It was old and it just broke apart the following winter. I was glad I got pictures of it before that happened.

That is a Black-capped Catbird. They aren’t seed eaters, so I see them in the trees, but they don’t drop by for dinner.
