A SQUIRRELLY SHARING TIME

SHARE YOUR WORLD (Squirrelly Style) 9-20-2021

However bizarre you find this information, it’s coming into fall again. The leaves are changing. It’s the early stages and it will be several weeks before it really begins to glow. Still, you can see it starting.

Welcome to Share Your World!

I Evil Squirrel is offering four or five different questions this week for you to answer.  He is channeling five of his cast of Nest Critters to do so.  Pay particular attention to Unca Sam’s question (the last question).  It’s on the serious side, so even if you find this whole thing a bit silly for your taste, you might want to answer that one question.

QUESTIONS

8-19-2021  “Chip the Dignified if Species Confused Squirrel/Chipmonk”

If you were to be cast as part of a comedy double act, which part would you play…. the straight man or the funny one, and why?

I think I’m the straight one. I’m pretty good at not reacting, often because I’m not paying attention.

8-26-2021  Buster “Auuughhh I’m HIT!” The Indestructible Possum

Buster at dinner, road kill chicken

Evil Squirrel prefaces Buster’s Question with “And while I had a few potential questions prepared… last week’s SCT SYW segment was a bit of a learning experience for me in getting a sample of what kind of taste many of the other participants have, as opposed to my tastelessness.  Mitzi’s unicorn horn question seemed to really get some heads scratching out there. So I’ll avoid the obvious death theme*, and ask this SYW question based on Buster that should still challenge the imagination, which you all know I’m pretty big on…”

  • For those not familiar with Buster – Buster dies a horrible death in every episode of SCT, any posts he’s featured in and most of the cartoon strips.  Course in the strips he was the epitome of what I’ve heard tell of possum-kind – nasty, mean and will seriously bite you if cornered.  They might have rabies too.  We don’t have possums in Utah, so that’s not verified.

If you were to be reincarnated on Earth as any non-living/inanimate object of your choosing, what would you come back as and why?

I used to want to be a tree, but these days, tree-hood isn’t what it used to be. So I think I’m going to go for ROCK this time. Yeah. A really big one.

Fleabag, the Canine.

A SYW question themed around Fleabag…

We all know how dogs mark their territory.  How do you mark your territory?

I hang things on the wall. I put statues and antique pots and small pottery dogs and the occasional statue of Buddha wherever I can find a flat space All my houses are very busy. I like interesting walls. There’s always something to look at in my house. Even in the bathroom.

A Share Your World question inspired by Shadow (The Supercilious Creature from the Pokemon ‘empire)

The typeface on poor Shadow’s Badge is very weak tea, so here’s what it says:

‘SHADOW THE UMBREON OF SUPERIOR INTELLECT ‘

If you were on a trivia show and had to correctly answer ten questions in one subject to win a million dollars (or whatever currency is used in your locale), what would you hope the category would be?

Either literature or history. I know a reasonable amount about a lot of things. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll ask a question to which I know (or can guess) the answer. Now, Garry, he has a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of older movies, and everything baseball whereas I can’t remember my own name half the time.

‘Unca’ Sam – Cousin to America’s Uncle Sam (pictured below), who used to be our stalwart, thrifty and honest icon of America, but whom a certain orange and ugly with it crapped all over (maybe literally), so Uncle Sam’s message is now sullied permanently.

UNCA Sam – his sleazeball third cousin twice removed is everything that a certain T-dump aspired to be.  Oily, corrupt, ugly as the south end of a north bound dog with diarrhea, and autocratic on top of it all.  A real sleaze pie.

Unca Sam asks (A rare serious and thought-provoking SYW question inspired by Uncle Sam…)

In democratic societies, do you believe that the right to vote is merely a privilege or a duty for all citizens?  This should not be thought of as an “Americans only” question.  ANY ONE is welcome to answer.

In Australia, voting is mandatory. Everyone complains. Here, voting is not mandatory — and everyone complains.

I’m not sure if voting stupidly is a better value because, let’s face it, a lot of people seem to be incredibly stupid. Maybe we need to raise the general IQ a few points before we have an answer to that. Let’s hope as a species, we survive long enough to find an answer. I know I don’t have one.

The Real Deal As Used To Be

It is noted, if it needs to be said, that all critters featured in this post are the property and imagination children of Evil Squirrel.   I just messed about with the images and did some mediocre art work to bring them to you via Share Your World.

  1. How do they enforce mandatory voting in Australia. That is intriguing.

  3. Thanks, Marilyn, for Sharing Your World! Excellent answers to all the questions. I like ‘busy’ walls and in the ‘loo? They’re great! Gives one something to look at while in the process. Somebody actually wrote a “bathroom book” which was full of weird trivia and little known facts. It helped pass some time. 🥺 Um, TMI? Moving on… I loved the photos, it does show that Autumn has ‘sprung’ and that ol’ man Winter is close behind. I fully agree with your answer to the last question. I’m grateful to be free to vote or not, but the process here is getting mired in too much ‘muck’ (not just the raked kind either) and is breaking down IMHO. I know I wrote about the lack of choice in this last general election. But I don’t have the answers either. I don’t think ‘they’ think we’re ready for the responsibility. Have a fabulous and thrilling week! Say “hey” to the critters and birds for me!

    • I’m not sure there really ARE answers to the voting question. What we really need to do is get people involved. Help them realize their input is important. Their choices matter. None of us are spare parts.

      We ARE the parts.

We have our magazine rack in the bathroom, so there are hundreds of copies of copies of The New Yorker and many years of National Geographic plus a few odd books 😀 And pictures on the walls. Mostly funny ones.

  4. I agree, voting stupidly is as bad as not voting at all. The point I was trying to make with my own answer although I used a lot more words to say it.

    • I was thinking that so many of the non-voters don’t know enough to place a valid vote anyway and I’m betting — just a good bet — that being required to vote doesn’t make people more interested in government or laws. Stupid is as stupid does is probably the rule of all lands world round!

      • It’s true. Requiring people to vote when they don’t care just means they are swayed by whoever they like on TV, or they vote randomly or they mess up their ballot. Voting isn’t actually compulsory. What is compulsory is getting your name ticked off on the roll on election day. Once you have the paper you can vote for Humpty Dumpty if you like. It won’t count. And no, it doesn’t make them more interested. I have met lots of people who just complain and say “They are all the same.” or brag about how they have never voted or messed up their paper. Annoys heck out of me.

    • Isn’t it depressing sometimes to realize we have huge populations that know absolutely NOTHING about what’s really going on? Even though a lot of what’s going on actually affects them personally, they don’t know anything and worse, they don’t WANT to know anything. It’s sad. I keep hoping to see some improvement.
