SQUIRRELY WORLD SHARING

SQUIRRELY SHARE YOUR WORLD 11-2-2021

I feel pretty squirrely myself right now, so this could not come at a more perfect time! I also took a bunch more squirrel pictures this morning, but I haven’t downloaded them yet. I’m still caught between two versions of Adobe and I think I’m losing “it.” Like you know, IT.

I thought this would be a great place to add some squirrely pictures. They are so incredibly furry and cute, especially that tiny red one.

Scratchy the DJ Pony (9-29-2021) What was the very first popular song you ever remember taking a liking to?  I’m not talking about children’s songs or old traditional songs… but the kind of songs you’d hear on the radio.   ♪♫♪♫

Johnny Mathis, “Wonderful, Wonderful.” I was 12 or 13. I bought it as a brand new 45 rpm and played it until the grooves disappeared.

Zeba, the Psychotic Emotionally Challenged Zebra  (10-7-2021)Are you one of those people who get queasy at sight of blood, or could you watch an open heart surgery?

I have had open heart surgery and oh so many others. Also, hey, I was a mother. If you don’t get to see at least a moderate amount of blood and gore while raising your kids, you are probably over-protective.

Big Scrat of the “Big House”  (10-14-2021)Who or what do you feel is lurking right behind you, just waiting to ambush you and make your life a living hell (or “heck” for those with delicate sensibilities)?

Microsoft. Possibly Google, too.

(10-21-2021) Sparklepony “The Put Upon”What is the gaudiest thing you have ever worn?

Garry bought me a jacket once that required sunglasses to focus. I wore it once, then quietly let it get old in a corner of my closet. I have no idea what possessed him. It certainly was unique.

The Squirrel Children, A SYW question themed around the brats    Mama’s Lil’ Angels Fess up!  What was something you did as a child that got you into BIG trouble?

I ran away from home. I was 17. So I waited a year, got married, and then I left. I had very good reasons to go and few reasons to stay. It was what we call a “jail break” marriage — two people who need to get out of their homes and make a new one without parents. It lasted 13 years and wasn’t such a bad idea. He was a good guy. We just got to a point where we sort of outgrew each other. I’m not sure most couples are geared up for 75 years of matrimony. Or any marriage for any amount of time.

What are you looking forward to as the festive season approaches?

Surviving it and not going broke!

  2. Thanks, Marilyn, for Sharing Your Squirrely World! Such amazing photography and yes, that tiny red squirrel still makes me go “squeeee ❤ " It's just too adorable. I was surprised that you didn't add "Adobe" to your list of frightening things behind you. I privately call those three "Axis of Evil Part II". They're very intimidating indeed! It was brave of you to 'run away from home" at 17. I 'get' why though, and I did the same, only without a partner, because I somehow knew marriage would be a bad idea for me. A young marriage would have been sheer hell. It's strange that nobody tells the newlyweds (or the engaged couple seeking counseling) the fact that they'll change with time, and who they are isn't necessarily who they'll BE. But I suppose nobody in love (and young and so in love or whatever) would listen anyway. Your reasons were very sensible in my opinion! Have a great week, and keep warm! It's cold here, I shudder (literally) to think what it must be back there!

    • The running away alone was completely unsuccessful, but Jeff was fine. He really WAS a good guy in most ways — he just wasn’t the right one for me. I think we were too much alike. He was a great friend, but a lousy marriage partner. I think of these earlier marriages as “trial balloons” until Garry came of age. Mind you I knew Garry from when I was 16. I was 45 and Garry was 50 when we finally got married.

The second one was stupid and I knew better. But sometimes, stupid is so much EASIER than doing something sensible. I often wish I’d lived a stupider life. I would have been stupidly happy instead of smarter with a permanent migraine.

Yes. ALL Adobe products are terrifying — even if you have been using them — as I have — for more than 25 years. I’ve been using them since they were invented — and if Adobe is daunting, FrameMaker — designed for book designers and technical writers (I was both) — is way beyond daunting. It’s in a whole different stratosphere of terrifying. I finally got one book written. I saved that template because I was sure I’d never be able to that twice.

From a writing point of view, though, FrameMaker was amazing. You could build all kinds of cross references, indexes, appendices, TOCs. Everything could be linked to anything else, even if it was in a different book. It was the design part that was really lethal. I think FrameMaker taught me that sometimes. no matter how hard you try, you don’t get it. I didn’t get it. At all.

The problem is, I need Photoshop because it’s what I know how to use. I know all the symbols, how to find the menus, how to save things where I want them. There are things I need to learn, like how to remove something — literally, make it vanish. I need further instruction on that.

Microsoft, Google, WordPress, Adobe — that are ALL out to get me.

  3. re ‘sparklepony’ – I’m only very thankful that HH would NEVER think of buying me anything as he knows that my taste is different of what he considers gr8! He does however encourage me to buy flowers at any moment because he knows I love them just so much. I think I’ve become over-sensitive the moment my ex brought me ONCE a beautifully wrapped flower shop gift. I unwrapped a small cactus to the comment of him: You deserve it! Even in my desperate state I thought this was funny….

    • It was funny. And by that stage in a break up, if there’s one thing we need, it’s a good laugh.

Now that Garry knows an orchid is always a great gift, his gift giving has greatly improved. He has given me things the I would have liked had they not been the wrong size — by a LOT — or completely different than I asked for, or in one case, exactly what I said “And please don’t get me a cardigan.”

He got me a cardigan. In red cashmere — in size SMALL. Um, not really.

  5. Thank you for the squirrels, and for answering this round of shelf critter questions. If you ever think the squirrels have eaten enough, maybe you should try wearing the jacket for them…. it just might frighten them off!

    • That jacket quietly disappears during one “cleaning out” of clothing we no longer wore, or in my case, would no longer fit. If I want to chase squirrels, I let the Duke on the porch. Of course the squirrels are long gone, but he runs around the porch snuffing and woofing with excitement. I put him back inside and the squirrels come onto the porch and make faces at him because he can’t catch them. This makes him insane and he tries to run through the French doors (they don’t open anymore). Cats? Likes them. Other dogs? Okay, fine. Birds? Nah. But SQUIRRELS…

There’s something genetic about dogs and squirrels. It’s in their DNA.

  8. I miss squirrels. Between the dogs and the cats, they stay away from my yard. Luckily, I can view them down in my lot from above, but they are ground squirrels and swift in their retreat.

    • Our squirrels are just on the edge of becoming tame. We are they first place they come to eat. A year later, we get their kids. They are so TINY when they show up. And the Duke can’t get to them. He WANTS to, but he can’t. Dogs really have some kind of frenzy in the presence of squirrels. It’s weird.
