Well, it’s January and it snowed. A few years ago, this would have been absolutely normal. This is New England. It’s winter. It snowed. But we haven’t have almost any snow for the past three winters, so, surprise! It’s the real deal — about 6 inches or 15 cm, more or less.

And then, birds. There was (no surprise) a lot of activity. When the weather is like this, they get surprisingly tolerant of each other. I can’t do much for them other than what I’ve already done. The flat feeder is full of snow and until someone clears a path on the deck, I can’t even get to the feeders. I think the somebody may be me.

There are a lot more, but this is all I had time to process. All they really needed was a bit more brightness, a hint of contrast, and whatever time it took me to pick the pictures out of the download. I think that was actually most of the time. The processing was easy, but selection? Not so much!

WE HIT THE MAGIC NUMBER! WE’VE GOT A FULL FOOT AND AND STILL SNOWING LIGHTLY. THE SKY IS WHITE, SO MORE IS LIKELY.

When it stops snowing — it is slowing, but not stopped yet — I’ll dig a path to the feeders. They actually have as much food as I can give them right now. I have to assume they have a DNA connection to winter since these are all-year-round birds.
