I spent most of the afternoon doing a portrait that is not ready for prime time, but the Chickadee looks like a chickadee. He’s the Massachusetts’ state bird, too. He tiny, round, and looks like a little feathered ping-pong ball. He lives here through all seasons and his favorite food? Mealworms. Yum!

I should have given him a rosy breast, but he looked so handsome in black, grey, and white — a ping-pong ball wearing a tux.

I’m sorry, but my first thought was a lyric from a B-52s song (A Song for Future Generations)… “Hey, I’m Kate and I am a Taurus. I love tomatoes and black-capped chickadees”

I never heard the song! Great lyric, though. I love them too. I don’t know how anything that small survives our winters.

Not one of their most popular songs, but they did name their greatest hits album after it (makes sense – Songs for Future Generations…) which is where I hear it.
They are cute birds, though I never put that name and that bird together. I like the drawing 🙂

Thanks Trent! It looks like a chickadee, even without its rosy breast.
