ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and A time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time for war, and a time for peace.

Thank you. I added the music. I think people better remember words they hear to music, don’t you?

Yes, they do.

I liked Pete Seger’s version. There is a time for all…but it can still be sad. Your beautiful flower has come and gone. Beautiful though it may be.

Thank you for realizing what prompted the post. The two flowers died, though there were now newer ones. The dead ones reminded me there is a time for everything. The lilies bloomed but now are gone. More would bloom in their own time.

What a lovely poem Marilyn.

It’s Biblical, from Ecclesiastes. But it’s also a lovely poem and has been used as a song a couple of times.

I didn’t know that.

I think Pete Seeger wrote it as a song in the 1950s and he sang it quite often. The Byrds also recorded it in the early 1960s as did Pete, Paul & Mary and Judy Collins. I like Pete’s version better and his version with Judy Collins is really special.
