SKETCHBOOK 77 – KISSING GOLDFINCH

They look like they are kissing. Really, they are quarreling. They are playing dominance games and one bird or the other should back down. Except a lot of the time, they don’t back down. They squabble, but afterward, they go back to pillaging seeds.

    • I think this is true of almost all birds, even doves. Some birds are pushier than others, but they definitely have a hierarchy as do cats and dogs and other animals that sometimes form groups.
