Thanks, Cee. Some of these, we had to pull off the road to take the pictures because the clouds weren’t going to last until our next stop — which was home. I was surprised at how many could pictures I have and felt lucky to be able to find so many.
I think the BEST clouds were the evening clouds over the desert outside of Phoenix. Every night was special It was amazing. Sometimes the mountains turned red from those amazing sunsets. I took many MANY cloud and sunset with clouds shots. They were all exceptional.
Those Arizona desert sunsets were heart-wrenching. The sky over the desert was truly “the Big Sky” I’d heard about. I could understand what drew people to it. And that song has become a a “standard.” Joni Mitchell was a really great song writer. I’m sure she’d get a medal here, but she’s Canadian, so I guess they have to give her the medal she so richly deserves.
Lovely pictures. It took me a while to work out that clouds make all the difference to pictures of sunsets and sunrises. We often have cloudless skies and the pictures are nowhere near as dramatic.
I had to work that one out too. It’s the clouds that give you all the colors for sunrise AND sunset. That’s why I always say there’s a lot of luck involved in landscape photography. Luck and patience. The shot of that single cloud across the sun had me standing with the camera poised waiting until the sun and the cloud intersected. I knew they would. And while I stood these on the dock in Rockport, about a million mosquitoes munched on me. I was itchy for a long time, but I got that picture!
I have finally learned to WEAR BUG REPELLENT! I don’t like poisons but when you shoot at sunrise, the mosquitoes are HUNGRY and if you are the only one on the dock, they will all come for breakfast. I hate bugs. I also wanted that picture. Patience and a certain amount of discomfort can be the make/break for photography 😀
Wow!
These all are so equally mesmerizing captures, Marilyn. Hard to pick a favorite here 🙂

I loved that song when I first heard it. Back in theater days it was one of those songs we would gather around the piano to sing at cast parties.

Haha, I have done the same, especially in the bush.
