It’s too soon for full results. That will take about 3 months, but I think the nurse, realizing I wanted to see something, even if it was just a hint, had them run a CBC panel yesterday. At least we could see if anything had gotten better.
Mind you, I feel better but it can be hard to tell if you feel better because you want to feel better or feel better because your body is responding to the infusions. I saw the numbers yesterday. I’ve gotten a little better at reading the results (thank you Google!), so I could see that things were looking up, or so it seemed. This was confirmed by the note I got this morning:
Good morning Marilyn,
Your CBC shows your hemoglobin has responded well after recent replacement with IV Iron. Your hemoglobin has increased to 10.4 from 9.0 prior to your infusion. The size of your red blood cells has also normalized which is great.
We will follow-up as scheduled on 5/2/23. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Gio, NP
This is all very good news. So maybe it is working! I hope so. One way or the other, this is great news for me.
Everything looks better so now, if the improvement lasts — and maybe gets even better (which it should) — I could be in far better shape as spring rolls around.
Let’s hear it for better blood!

So am I! It has been a long long period of feeling really lousy, but I’m beginning to feel better. If this continues and improves — at least something will be going well.

Good news indeed. 10.4 is good.

Almost normal! A lot of other levels dropped down to normal too — the “phils” (baso and eusino and the rest) went from being up in the thousands to being normal — like suddenly, 0.5. AND I can breathe! Also, I can stand up from the sofa without pushing myself up. This is the first time I’ve been able to do that in a couple of years. I’m almost afraid to believe it’s true.

I hope it stays that well.

Oh, me too! The thing about anemia is that it doesn’t have symptoms, but it produces symptoms that mimic other problems. It would seem that one of the major reasons I could breathe was because the eosinophil level was WAY high. It dropped all the way down to normal … and I can breathe! I had no idea that this was connected to that.

Now you know! Keep an eye on these symptoms.

I’m very optimistic. It has been such a long, hard haul. But several things all feel better at the same time. I can stand up from the sofa without pushing myself up. I can climb the stairs almost like a normal person. AND I CAN BREATHE. That’s huge!

Just being able to stand up with having to push myself to a standing position is amazing. I really am almost afraid to believe it.

That sounds like a good start!

It’s a great start. I can actually stand up from sitting without having to push myself up AND I can breathe. I don’t know what spring and the pollen season will bring, but for now, it really IS a huge improvement.

Ah, so you can read the numbers? I still have to look up each number to remember what it means, what normal is, and where I am now. It’s a pretty good start. The best medical noise in a long, long, LONG time.
