MEDIA WAR STORIES, EPISODE 6

Episode 6 has arrived! Please welcome John Corcoran (but everyone calls him “Corc”) who used to live here (and there, and also there) and is now in California and like the rest of us, retired. He’s got a lot of his own funny tales to tell!

MEDIA WAR STORIESBEHIND THE SCENES TALES FROM MEDIA’S FRONT LINES

This is the show Garry and I were able to watch being edited. What a cool experience! There are a few similarities with the kind of processing I do, but there are a lot more differences than similarities.

For a start, the complexity of it compared to still photo editing? It’s a different world. There are things you can do that you never imagined were doable — and then there are relatively simple things that in video are more difficult. You are mixing multiple videos — in this case three. One from Connecticut (Tom). On from Massachusetts (Garry). The last from Los Angeles (Corcoran). And you are mixing sound. There are layers on layers. Impressive!

Tom the almighty editor

Plus, there were additions of still photos to augment the chatter. All in all? It was more than I would be able to do, even if I understood all the technology — which I sort of understand, but not well enough to actually use it. The process requires remarkable dexterity — physical and technical — and a lot of focus.

  1. It’s pretty amazing that Tom can do all that at home and come up with something that looks like it was produced in a TV studio.
