CBWC: Clouds
Clouds look better — brilliant — in black & white. Better than in color. These were taken locally, but also over the Arizonan deserts.

These are all great clouds for this week. Thanks for playing Marilyn ;D

You are most welcome. I should do more black & white, but I get lazy.

Marilyn, I like the one with the cactus in the foreground. Could be a “Winchester 73” shot. All wonderful shots. You’re right about B&W clouds. They stand out more — less diffused by color.

Yes, B&W really suits these dramatic skies. I love the one with the cacti and the toning you’ve given to the one top left!

Mostly what I did was change the black/white settings (a bit more white & a bit more black) — and turned down the brightness a notch. The clouds popped out 😀

It’s surprising what you can achieve with simply tweaking brightness and contrast. That’s usually the first thing I try if I feel a shot needs more oomph!

Toonsarah, kindred spirits. We like the same shot for similar reasons.

Yes they do.

Clouds really “pop” in black & white. Of course, it helps to have white clouds on a dark background.

Mitchum’s western noir “Blood On The Moon” uses this in several scenes to heighten the brooding tension.
