ONE-TO-THREE — PHOTO PROCESSING CHALLENGE FOR APRIL 2023
I always want to participate in this, but sometimes I don’t get to it or I don’t have a picture I think will work in this context. This time, I found it in time AND I had a picture that I figured would work.

I know this is four, but I felt I had to include black and white and besides, all of these were interesting. I’m not sure when or how I’d use them, but I enjoyed creating them.
I should note that while I was sharpening up this picture, I realized this little Gerbera Daisy is full of aphids, so I’m glad I didn’t put it with my other flowers! You just can’t be too careful with houseplants. Once one plant gets bugs, they all get it and you can lose a lot of lovingly grown flowers because you were careless for a brief moment. At least it wasn’t red spider. There’s no effective cure that isn’t seriously poisonous for that particular bug.

you did a fabulous job at manipulating this photo…..I like the 2nd one the best…..I don’t get any colour coming through when I use my pencil sketch effect. I might have missed it, but I can’t see if you said which programme you used. I’d be interested to know.

These are all great. I really like the black and white.

I like the posterized one best.

I like all of them for different reasons. I just never know what to do with interesting processed photos. They aren’t really photographs anymore. They are derived from photos, but are something else.

Can they be considered art?

I think so, but I seem to be alone in this. I thought it should get a separate name — NOT photography. I used to have a clever name, but I seem to have forgotten it. I forget EVERYTHING. If if weren’t for Google I wouldn’t remember anything.

It’s controversial in some circles. I think it’s not quite accurate to call it a photo anymore. Photo based art, maybe? Then again, there is a certain amount of manipulation “allowed” where we can still call it photography. As I’m sure you’ve read a hundred times before, the processing software in the camera itself modifies the imagine captured on the sensor, sometimes moving it far from the reality, at the very least in terms of light and color rendition, and we still call that “photography.”

Oddly enougy, the only two I use (and I don’t use any special effects much these days) are posterized and pencil sketch. Mostly posterized.

You forgot to mention how you did these!

Straight “filter gallery” on Photoshop. They have other filters, but they are so ridiculously complicated to use, I don’t bother.

They came out much better than I expected. Apparently it was the right flower at the right moment 😀

I thought so too. I liked it lighter but I didn’t think it would show up well online. I love the special effects. I’m just not sure what to do with them.
