ODDBALLS – Marilyn Armstrong

Oddball Challenge: October 18, 2018

I don’t even remember the pictures I’ve taken this month. I know some of them were odd, maybe even weird … but in the pile of pictures we’ve taken, I don’t remember the details. I do remember the first picture, though. My problem turned out to be where I had put the file with this picture. It was taken with a bunch of autumnal pictures, but it really belonged in a different file.

Let’s see what I can unearth in this week’s ODDBALLS!

Please THINK! Excellent idea!!

I am either not getting prompt posts at all or getting them several days late. Since this is pretty consistent, I’m still not sure if this is WordPress or Gmail. I get regular post notices on time from the same people. Since most of my email that isn’t from a company or a newsfeed is from someone on WordPress, I have no way to compare this.

Is anyone else having this problem? The only reason I found the post at all was finding someone else’s oddball post and realizing I hadn’t done one. Then I had to use their link to backtrack … which doesn’t always work as well as it should.

Kammie’s Oddball Challenge 10/11/18

If ever I run short of oddball photos, remind me to visit my car dealer. The guy who owns it is a collector. He collects a lot of stuff for charity, but he also collects things all kind of car-related stuff. He sells almost everything that could be considered an American car, and a few things that aren’t. He has to have the most entertaining interior of any car dealer anywhere.

The Blues Brother, hanging out

He also collects a lot of movie star life-size period images. Elvis and the Blues Brothers. The Sinatra band. Cars that were made to order and have nearly disappeared.

The last time I was there for any length of time, we were buying a car, so I was a bit distracted, but this time — back in hopes of getting that all-important second key for the car, I was ready to do a little shooting.

Meeting on the path – Photo: Garry Armstrong

Garry likes to take pictures of signs and posters. He used to use them, when doing news pieces, as ways to “place” the story — in case he forgot where he had been.

He didn’t do one story a day like they show on television. He often did a handful or more of stories in all different parts of Massachusetts and often, Rhode Island or New Hampshire or even Maine.

And he often had stories on the network, so his work got seen in many other places and thus was recognized in some very odd locations. Like Dublin and a castle in Scotland.

Those posters and road signs reminded him where he had been. Now he takes them because they are interesting and occasionally, funny.

Odd Ball Photos are those great photos that you take which really don’t seem to fit into a common category. We’ve all taken and like them because we just can’t hit delete. If you have any, this challenge is for you.

Oddball: noun a person or thing that is atypical, bizarre, eccentric, or nonconforming; adjective – whimsically free-spirited; eccentric; atypical

How It Works?

This Odd Ball Challenge is not topic-related. Feel free to add any photos or artwork that fits into the category. Be creative and challenge yourself. Hopefully, you’ll find your creative eye will be expanded. ENJOY and have FUN.

We went photographing the other day. It was definitely a farm day. Not all farms are equally friendly to guests and some of these pictures require no further explanation.

It was certainly an interesting day for shooting, from the super-friendly Ironshoe Farm to the farm around the block where they are always friendly and by the way, do you need a kitten or half a dozen?

And then, there was the other one.

Kitten anyone?

Nothing makes me take odder ball pictures than a new camera. As I’ve been trying to figure out what this camera cum computer can do, I’ve taken some interesting pictures. No question, they are odd. But very interesting and rather unique.
