CEE’S ODD BALL PHOTO CHALLENGE: 2015 WEEK 31
This first picture is odd in the sense of funny. Intentionally. It comes with a back story. Garry and I were at a tribute for a long-term colleague of Garry’s who passed away some months back.
It was not only a tribute to a Joe Day, a fine human being and a great reporter, but a reunion of many people with whom Garry had worked over the past four decades.
This picture includes Garry Armstrong, legendary news guy, and Jorge Quiroga, another legendary news guy who is still working. When both of them were working, they were constantly mistaken for one another. I can see a resemblance, but they really aren’t “separated at birth” twins. Or am I missing something?

It is a great photo – maybe they both have the same sense of humour. It has been fun reading the comments.

I think they do share a lot of similarities. They covered the same kinds of stories, too.

Is this something like the idea that people grow to look like their pets, but in this case, friends? 🙂 They both look like happy people.

They certainly both spent a lot of time working the streets. They have a lot in common. But they never worked for the same station, never worked together from the same newsroom. So my answer would be no, not really. Coincidence.

Ahh, well, so my joke fell flat. 🙂

No, it didn’t. I personally think Garry looks much more like our dog, Bonnie.

from the back, or from a distance, yeah. Size, shape, of course. But when you look at the two of them side by side, well…and one is haired, one is not. that should be a clue, right?
I havent watched TV in years but I do remember jorge well, I loved his name. And you must admit, they didnt help the issue lol
My mother had that same kind of attitude. She of all people, would point out girls and women who looked ‘exactly” like me. Brown hair, thin face, glasses. most of them were plug ugly in my book. Thanks Mom.

Apparently to most people, they are identical twins. Not to each other. Not to me. It became a running gag between them. It still is after all these years.

Judy, Jorge and I plead guilty! We absolutely LOVED playing with people including the high and the mighty who would get us confused. I can’t help it. The devil made us do it.

No, we didn’t share clothing. That’s another story with another TV news pal.

Marilyn, My first thought when I saw the pic, before I read your commentary, was that they looked alike…or at least similar.

They do bear a resemblance … but people acted like they were twins. They jabbered at Garry in Spanish and because he can actually speak and understand some, they we sure he was Jorge. They did the same to Jorge. They used to sign each others’ autographs. They resemble each other … but not exactly identical either. “They” do not all look alike.

It’s funny in another way, Marilyn. Both Jorge (who still is) and I were regarded as sincere, trust worthy and very honest journalists. We both take pride in our work. But the business of “they look alike” was and is too funny to take seriously. Buenas Dias, Mi Amor!

There are people who do not look much alike when they are together but when I see them alone, I can’t remember which is which. Perhaps this was the case. If they have similar personalities–that makes it worse.

They are pretty funny together, that’s for sure. I’ve only seen them together a couple of times, but they’re a riot.

Sometimes the more you like someone the more you begin to look like that person.., I’m just sayin’

I think this is a case of ” you all look alike” in action. Jorge is Hispanic. Garry is dominantly African-American. They really DON’T look alike … but to a lot of people, they are two similarly size reporters, both brown. And that’s the same in their book. Meet my husband, Jorge.

They are friends. More colleagues, I would say. But they not only aren’t the same color, they aren’t the same ethnicity. Hardly twins, at least not to my eyes.

No they don’t look alike but I see a similar enthusiasm shine forth from their smile and their eyes.

Leslie, we are! I admire Jorge! When he arrived at the luncheon and spotted me, he pointed at me and we spontaneously broke into laughter. That’s FRIENDSHIP in an often cut throat biz.
