I should mention for you gamers out there that I got a unique try at playing a whole game of “Star Trek” on the virtual machine. Running a star ship is a lot more work than I imagined. I was exhausted when I finished. I felt like I’d really been running a space ship! Tom says “Skyrim” will be even more awesome. It makes earlier efforts seem slightly primitive. Each generation of this technology is a leap over the previous version. While the “humans and sort of humans” look very realistic, they don’t yet look entirely real. But I’m betting in a year, maybe less, they will.
I absolutely know if I got one of these machines and a game? My blogging days would finish in a hurry. Lucky for everyone I haven’t got that kind of money or blogging be damned … I’m off to see the universe and blow up some spare moons!

This is why I have basically avoided most of the “deeper” games. I only have so many hours a day and they are amazingly busy. If I add on a few hours of gaming, I will NEVER get anything done again. Even now, just finding a little time to read a book is a big deal.

Seems like these days there are more reasons to both spend less time in reality and more time in virtual reality? Have they improved VR so you can eat drink and use the mens room there yet?
When they do who needs to leave the house? 😉
I confidently predict that in a few years you’ll be able to put on a headset (if you can afford it) and have an almost identical experience to visiting Africa for real – in your lounge room!

I’m glad you all had such a great catch up visit. I enjoyed Tom’s post about his Star Trek game the other day and thought it sounded a great way to see the universe without leaving home although with my poor coordination I’d have probably got us all killed before we left space dock.

There isn’t a lot of coordination involved. There’s some, but it’s simpler than knitting, for example. Never got knitting or crocheting or even knot-making. Once you remember which stuff is on your left or right, the number of movements is minimal. From that point of view, it’s easier than most games. But there’s more thinking to do and you need to focus. NOT a game where you can let your mind wander.

Count me in the minority, but I grew up in the old 80’s aracde and original Nintendo days… and to me, that is what video games are supposed to look and feel like. Heavily pixelated, boopy beepy music, very cartoonish. I’ve never been much for the realistic look of modern games… I can look out my window and see 3-D zombies and aliens roaming around if I want…

My real objection to this ‘big’ games is that they are too close to real work for my taste. That was sufficiently enough like actually driving a space ship that I was ready for a nap. I would love to do this once in a while, but I’m pretty sure on a daily basis, I’d rather write. But to be fair, compared to most things in this world, I’d rather write.

I’m sometimes surprised at how much difference even a little bit of time away can make. It seemed like more time and It was great to NOT be worried about everything. I felt guilty neglecting the blog. Guilty. Not guilty enough to put much time into it. I am trying to get back up to speed today, though.

I meant to add a comment about harmony. I have a plaque in my kitchen that just says Harmony — made by a friend, and inspired by a tiny town we visited named Harmony. It epitomizes that day, but it also epitomizes the attitude I like to have within my world!

I think — ESPECIALLY as we get older — we need to calm down. We need to find a peaceful place inside us because obviously, the world isn’t going to do it for us!

So you are just north of Botswana and South Africa? Is the Kalihari part of your landscape too? It looks like a gloriously beautiful country. I have always wanted to visit Africa. i don’t think it will happen in this lifetime and I am sorry, but it is wonderful to see stories that make me feel as if I have visited.

I wish you could have. It was a hot, sticky day, but breezy and lovely on the water. I wish we’d had more time, but the doggies were calling us. Despite rumors of near starvation, they do seem to have survived!

We definitely need to get rid of the “old” thing. All of our friends — the real friends — are seniors. Yikes! Some of our kids are working on it too! Double and triple yikes!
