ARE YOU A DECENT HUMAN BEING, OR ARE YOU A DICK? – BY TOM CURLEY

Even though the election is over and the world is a calmer — yet sadder — place, this deserves a rerun. Because things have changed, but the GOP hasn’t changed. Today, Trump came out to harangue Facebook for blocking him. I guess after taking on Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head, they needed to bring back the big orange guy himself, just to stir the pot. Like life, following half a million deaths, isn’t difficult enough?

Serendipity Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth

I listen to the various pundits on all the news stations and newspapers going on and on about what Democrats need to do to win the midterm elections. They all have a variation of the same theme. They must have a “message.” They can’t just say “Hey we are better than that asshole Trump and those fucking Republicans.”

They need to be for something, like universal health care, a 15-dollar minimum wage, not ripping innocent children from their parents for the crime of trying to come to America for a better life.  But here’s the thing.

That’s bullshit. I completely disagree. We have moved far beyond arguing about political policy. We need to run on what kind of human beings we are in this country.

  1. Interesting. I agree that character needs to come back into the whole “eligible for public office’ scenario. I do have one question about that though. Are there actually any politicians who stand any chance of being nominated, let alone elected, who possess ‘good’ character traits? Honesty. Integrity. Ethics. Compassion. and perhaps the most important characteristic of all: Common Sense? In Utah and in my humble opinion, there are no such individuals. Being a sleaze bag (of any gender or ethnicity) seems to be the foremost qualification for being elected to public office. That’s terrifying.

    • It’s a very good question and I suspect you are right. Some are better than others but these days, success doesn’t seem to involve anything like doing the right thing. It’s all about power and leverage. How honest can you be with the reality in which we live? We need our own “messiah,” in whom everyone can believe. Not a “trump.” A good human being with the power to help others believe. Are there any such people?

      I don’t know.
