Share Your World 26th December

It’s the last Share Your World of 2022. Thoughts as always of Melanie and how she is missed by so many.

If you have been given a variety of gifts, do you have a clear out of older stuff to make room for it?

No, but there’s no room left in this house for anything more than what’s already in it. This place is packed. For clothing I can alway find room because I’ve cleared out a lot of office clothing I don’t wear anymore. Other stuff? No room! No closet space No shelf space. No wall space. None.

Do you overindulge with food for special occasions and then come to regret it with either weight gain, guilt or severe indigestion?

Not usually, but this year I was bad. Cannoli’s are a killer for me. Usually I don’t care much for sweets, but these were so good.

What is your favourite part of any celebration?

It depends on the celebration. I really don’t think you can generalize. How can you compare Christmas with your birthday or Chanukah with Labor Day?

Each one has nothing to do with the other.

Are you looking forward to getting bargains in the January Sales?

I would if I needed anything. We don’t need anything. We need LESS of everything. A LOT less.

  1. Thanks for joining in Marilyn. I know what you mean about space. We had next to nothing on the boat which was good as we got rid of practically everything, and there was little space here in the bungalow, yet we seem to have accumulated a lot of stuff. I have to sort out the wardrobe at some stage, not for clothes, but everything else that has been piled inside. Happy New Year and take care.

    • Stuff accumulates at an amazing rate! When Garry and I moved here, I had dumped truckloads of stuff. In the 22 years since… well, I’m sure you can imagine.

Clothing is the least of it because that was easy to pass along. I don’t go to an office and neither does Garry and our clothing was in good shape, so it went on for redistribution But art including pottery, statuary and of course the remainder of my doll collection — and then Owen moved in and added a LOT of grandfather and other chiming clocks — and audio equipment and photographs and cameras. I find homes for two items and five more show up. I think they are all waiting in the wings! And then there are kitchen things — and spares — and lightbulbs. I’m NOT a hoarder, but stuff just gets ahead of me. And we don’t have anywhere to throw stuff out, not even a dump site and they charge a lot of money to get rid of stuff.

  2. No more sale shopping for me too.

  3. My house is full too. I keep sticking stuff up in the loft. I’ll be in trouble when that’s full up.

    • It’s why I keep telling people to NOT GIVE ME ANYTHING. If it needs a place to stand, a wall to hand on, a closet, the inn is full. Our attic is one of those weird ones without a real floor, so I decided to use one of the small spare bedrooms as our attic. It has the printer, the modem, the router, when not in use the Christmas tree and our winter coats — plus extra blankets, but it was a small room — too small for even a small child so it’s more than half full. One day, the house is going to explode!

  4. Thank you, Marilyn, for making me laugh. We didn’t exchange gifts this year (my hubby and I) because we also don’t need anything.
