This month moved along even faster than June — and that was fast. It was a very hot, humid month with a great deal of rain, thunder, lightning and wind. The sun occasionally appeared between storms. It was hot in the shade, but it was hotter with the sun out.
After talking about it for weeks Owen and Arthur finally made it to our local (but huge) Southwick Zoo — just one town east of Uxbridge. The pictures are Owen’s.
It was not the best month to have our automobile air conditioning die — again. Despite this, we managed to get around, windows open. It was like all those years before we had A/C in our cars. But hotter. Much hotter. It got fixed right after we got back from our mini-vacation (of course).
It was also a month of many pictures. Summer is the right time for photographs probably because winter isn’t.
The other yellow-green orchid is still trying to take root, but is managing to flower anyway.
The flowers out back on our deck are also doing well except for the petunia in which the doves have been nesting. It has been destroyed.
And birds.
And finally, at the end of the above all else, friends! If it hadn’t been raining — and we weren’t so busy talking and laughing and eating, I’d have taken more pictures.
The smiling picture of Cherrie and me is going to be a favorite, so expect to see it often
About The Changing Seasons
The Changing Seasons is a monthly project where bloggers around the world share their thoughts and feelings about the month just gone. We all approach this slightly differently, though generally with an emphasis on the photos we’ve taken during the month.
For many of us, looking back over these photos provides the structure and narrative of our post, so each month is different. Some focus on documenting the changes in a particular project — such as a garden, an art or craft project, or a photographic diary of a familiar landscape.
But in the end, it is your changing season, and you should approach it however works for you.
There are no fixed rules around post length or photo number — just a request that you respect your readers’ time and engagement.

Summer at its best (except for the busted aircon in your car!) – laughter shared with friends, cute critters and sun-kissed flora & fauna. So happy that you shared your beautiful memories with us!

The lads went. I’ll go with them in the fall. Too hot for me to be walking around. But I’ve been there several times over the years, especially when Kaity was young and she got a chance to ride a camel and an elephant and just admire everything. It’s actually a very big zoo, the largest in the state. Not as exotic as the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, but bigger and the animals roam around which is lovely.

That sounds good. I really only like zoos where the animals have room to roam.

This is a private zoo, run by the same family for 100 years. They have expanded to 300 acres and all the animals that are safe to roam are allowed to roam. Animals that need to be protected from themselves or from people are in roomy natural enclosures. They take superb care of their animals, too. It’s the only private zoo in the state, but it’s the most highly recommended by pretty much everyone. It’s a lot of fun and particularly for kids who get to pet the deer and the goats and anything else roaming free — and there are quite a lot of roaming animals.

Considering what a rough time we’ve both had, we managed to come through it looking okay. Not young, but not totally decrepit either. It’s great to have friends who remember when we were young.

Thank you. It has been an interesting month for photography, too. It was fun getting pictures of people. We do a lot of wildlife, flowers, trees, parks — but not many people. Except for each other.

Thanks Paula. It was a real moment of joy to be with friends. To see the guys really TALKING. To laugh. It reminded me how great friends are in life. And how much I miss them.
