LAST PHOTOS – SEPTEMBER 2023

Last on the Card – September 2023

There weren’t any “leftovers” in my cameras this month. It was all dolls and a few pictures of new furniture and of course, Garry post surgery. All of which were downloaded and many of which have been posted. But, as it happened, it stopped raining for a couple of hours today and I went out and took some pictures. They look wet because everything looks wet. Even the birds look soggy.

The wood on the deck looks sodden. The ground won’t absorb more water. What a change from last year when we couldn’t get rain for all the rain dances and prayers to the cloud gods.

All pictures were taken this afternoon using my 60mm Olympus macro lens attached to my Olympus OMD EM-10 M4. This is the first time in weeks I’ve managed to get outside between rains and was amazed that the pictures didn’t need any help. Okay, I cropped a few edges, but that was it. My macro lens is behaving well. Thank you, lens. I appreciate your cooperation.

  1. It’s funny how too much rain often follows after too little. Our earth gets so dry and cracked that when the rains do come the water can’t be absorbed and we get flooding.

    • Now I can’t even comment on my OWN blog. WordPress is getting weird again.

When we got spring rains in May, the ground was hard and resistant to water. Now, after more than 5 months of non-stop rain, the ground is saturated. The rain falls and it just runs off because there’s no way for the earth to absorb it. We are losing some very big trees because their roots have nothing on which to hold except mud. They just fall over.

For once, living in a very rocky area has helped us.

This is the wettest spring and summer I have lived through. I’m told there was one as bad way back in the 1930s, but those were hurricanes. We’ve had a couple of hurricanes, but most of this has been rains that never seem to end. They call is a “rain train.”

      • That’s very interesting. We’ve had a few unusually wet summers but not like you are describing. The weather is certainly letting us know that there is a problem with our planet. Commenting in WP is weird at the moment. It can be most frustrating.

        • It’s a change in the winds. We used to have relatively predictable winds based on the season. Not 100% predictable, but we knew where they were coming from and where they were going. Now, they keep changing. It would be nice if we could get some kind of predictability though this region has always been less predictable than other places. It has just gotten a lot worse in the past five years.
